Summary of the Role’s Main Purpose
Day to day management, motivation and development of a team of circa 18 people in key teams: Financial Planning, Financial Reporting, Remuneration and General Ledger Integrity
Manage Year End and half year external reporting process, including liaising with the external auditors and advisors, Company Secretarial, Investor Relations and PR to ensure all deadlines are met
Manage preparation of key audit committee accounting papers in advance of Audit Committee Meetings
Produce periodic reports that consolidate the key issues and areas of focus being managed by each of the Operating Company teams
Produce Consolidated financial forecasts as part of the corporate planning process, the budgeting process and latest view process
Lead on key Group finance projects including: the implementation of the new leasing standard and the finance consolidation system upgrade programme
Principle Accountabilities
Preparation of the Annual Report and Financial Statements and the Interim Report, including:
Key papers and other papers for the Audit and Remuneration Committee’s
Internal Financial Review
External Financial Review
Co-ordination of the full accounts, including liaising with: PR for the Operating Review and Chairman’s Statement; Company Secretarial for Corporate Governance and Remuneration Committee Reports; and Investor Relations for presentation slides and analyst statements

The Financial Statements including all notes to the accounts
Preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecasts, the corporate plan and short-term forecasts covering the P&L, cash flow and balance sheet and other key performance indicators which involves:
Co-ordination across all divisional finance support teams, ensuring consistency of approach and that key issues are addressed
Consolidation of submissions into the corporate picture, working with the divisional finance teams to consolidate the overall position
Performing sensitivity analysis and financial evaluation of different financial performance scenarios
Facilitate co-ordination across finance divisions with key finance stakeholders in each operating company Production of the Group management accounts in a timely, accurate and informative way showing periodic performance analysis for both the Operating Board and the Group Board
Ensure the business is up to date and fully prepared for all new financial/accounting standard changes/interpretations under International Accounting Standards
Provide narrative that supports external financial reporting, ensuring issues are identified early
Perform a high standard of ad hoc analysis to support the CFO and Director of Group Finance on a range of Group/corporate financial matters, which will often be in ambiguous and undefined situations, that identifies key issues and opportunities for improvement
Manage a range of corporate cost and profit centres, the most notable being the Central Departments costs, ensuring a high standard of support, advice and analysis is provide to the HR director
Ensure a robust financial control environment throughout the Group through ownership of the G/L team, relevant Balance Sheet accounts and a regular Balance Sheet review process
Build and maintain a high performing, highly regarded Group Finance team through effective performance management, coaching, motivation and recruitment
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Professionally qualified ACA accountant with experience at a senior level within retail or an equivalent fast moving organisation, with proven skills to build senior level working relationships
Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
High level of energy and drive
Strong organisational and analytical skills
Ability to work under pressure – providing accurate high quality work under tight deadlines
Strategic perspective – understanding of the wider issues impacting corporate performance
Has the credibility, authority and inter-personal skills to work in partnership with Board members and relevant senior executives
Demonstrated delivery in a demanding, multi-functional stakeholder environment, with an emphasis on pragmatic decision support while maintaining analytical integrity
Strong commercial acumen, willing and able to challenge accepted practices and processes, and to operate as a sounding board for other senior finance colleagues on accounting matters.
Must be able to demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity and professionalism and can demonstrate that they are reliable and apolitical with strong emotional awareness
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience interacting and presenting at a senior level
