Gas Transmission (GT) owns, manages, and operates the National Transmission System (NTS) in Great Britain, making gas available when and where it’s needed.

We ensure that our network is safe, reliable and available, and that it delivers value for our customers and stakeholders, while minimising impact on the environment.

Metering is the largest asset manager of industrial, commercial and residential gas meters in GB – providing metering and meter reading services on behalf of GT.

We deliver high quality, value for money services – managing rental contracts and relationships with customers and gas suppliers and undertaking a range of activities to maintain our metering portfolio.

About the role

We are hiring a Head of Corporate Tax for our Tax department in Warwick.
To ensure that the groups UK Tax Policy is adhered to in respect of corporate taxes including delivery of the Corporation Tax compliance programme to ensure the group meets its filing and payment obligations
To help foster a good working relationship with HMRC on corporate tax related issues defending positions where needed and representing the Group in influencing the shape of tax law and regulations
To deal with direct tax audits, correspondence and/or enquiries from HMRC.
To maintain appropriate tax governance policies and processes to identify and minimise tax risk across direct taxes
To manage process improvements, including compliance automation and ensuring best use of existing or new technology solutions where possible and appropriate.
To act as an advisor and partner to the business on corporate tax matters keeping close links with the business to identify any early stage any areas of concern
To provide advice, training, presentations to the business where required
To help manage relationships with the auditor (corporate tax related items) and other external advisers as necessary

• To review changes in the legislation and outcomes of cases to ensure the business correctly accounts for corporate taxes and to identify any benefits attainable.• To support the business with any ad-hoc project work

Key Accountabilities

Delivery of the Group’s corporate tax compliance programme including:

o Corporate tax returns (insourced basis in conjunction with the Group Tax Manager) for 4+ UK Companies (plus any new holding companies set up as part of the divestment)
Preparation of tax disclosures for annual statutory and management accounts purposes, including analysing the tax impact of accounting developments.
Support the Regulatory Team with the delivery of the Group’s annual OFGEM tax reporting submissions
Maintain appropriate tax risk procedures to mitigate against uncertain tax liabilities consistent with the Group’s Tax Risk Management Strategy
Manage the annual Senior Accounting Officer reporting process
Lead the transition of the tax function towards a fully digital function and readiness for Making Tax Digital for Corporation Tax
Support the Group Tax Manager to ensure that any business development activities and growth strategies are undertaken subject to the appropriate tax advice
Interaction with HMRC, OFGEM and service providers as required.

About you

Strong background in UK Corporation Tax (circa 8-10 years)
Proven tax accounting and reporting skills
Experience of analysing and preparing capital allowance claims would be an advantage
This is a role in a newly created team so a successful candidate would need to be comfortable working inclusively across the business to set up new working practices
Recognised accountancy qualification
Recognised tax qualification – an advantage
Good written and verbal communication skills
Strategic thinker
Articulate communicator
Excellent at building relationships and collaborating across the business
Tax process management and improvement
Experience of a regulated environment an advantage but not essential
