The vacancy
Are you looking for a varied and rewarding role in palliative care? Do you want to work for a compassionate organisation that really cares about your wellbeing? If so, apply to join our In-patient team as a Registered General Nurse.
About the role
As a Nurse on our Inpatient unit, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, registered nurses, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and supportive care (chaplaincy, social Workers, complementary therapists). Patients that are admitted to our inpatient unit require specialist palliative care such as complex symptom management and end of life care. Treatments may include blood transfusions, antibiotics and intravenous fluids.
The responsibilities of an Ashgate Hospice Band 5 Nurse include:
To plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based nursing care strategies for patients and their carers in an open and cooperative manner respecting the rights of the individual.
To anticipate the changing needs of patients and emotionally prepared the patient and family.
To participate in MDT discussions to inform the management plan for patients.
In conjunction with the band sixes, lead on the day-to-day management of the discharge process.
To disseminate the management plans for the patients to the rest of the nursing team.
To manage the admission of patients.
To complete the verification of the death process when a patient dies.

About you:
You will have outstanding communication and organising skills, work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be committed to making a positive impact on the lives of patients, families and colleagues alike.
Skills and experience required.
Up to date NMC registration.
Able to demonstrate the ability to assess complex needs of patients and plan, implement and evaluate appropriate nursing actions.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of specialist palliative care/ oncology or another related field.
Enjoy working as part of a nursing team.
A passion for working with and supporting the needs of adults with a life-limiting condition, with a real commitment to delivering the highest level of care at all times.
