The role
Newcastle Law School has an exciting part time opportunity for a professional and enthusiastic person who enjoys working with a range of people to join the Professional Services team as Widening Participation and Pro Bono Projects Assistant. The main focus of this role is administrative support for the school’s Pathways to Law project, and a range of other Widening Participation activities. You will work closely with the Pro Bono Projects and Widening Participation Assistant to provide cover for each other’s non-working days. You will also provide some general administration to support the smooth running of the school.
You will be joining an experienced, friendly and supportive team. You will need excellent organisational and communication skills; be able to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail; be a team player; and use your initiative to prioritise your own workload in order to meet deadlines. Flexibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy are also essential, as is a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and knowledge of or an interest in learning the use of university systems such as SAP.
The post is part-time over 2 full days per week on Thursdays and Fridays. There may be some flexibility around specific working hours which we will be happy to discuss.

Key Accountabilities
1. Sutton Trust Pathways to Law
Administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the Sutton Trust Pathways to Law project, including but not limited to:
organisation of events, travel and catering, etc. (mix of online and in-person) aimed at engaging the Pathways students;
organisation of travel and accommodation for those attending the annual conference;
processing reimbursement of Pathways student travel costs;
assisting with recruitment of student mentors, checking they have completed eligibility to work checks in line with university policy, adding approved work assignments to the university’s student payment app;
assisting with upkeep of documentation relating to the Pathways project.
2. Widening Participation and Schools Outreach Projects
Administrative support for a variety of projects including arranging visits, travel, catering.
Assisting with recruitment of student outreach mentors, checking they have completed eligibility to work checks in line with university policy, adding approved work assignments to the university’s student payment app; processing travel reimbursements.
3. Pro Bono Projects
Ensure business continuity in the absence of the Student Experience and Pro Bono Engagement Assistant post holder by providing support for events, activities and meetings as required.
4. Other Duties
Administration of the annual prizes awarded by the Boards of Examiners, including notifying students, external awarding firms and sponsors, and NU Advancement, preparation of payment forms.
Assist with the registration on the university’s SAP system of University of Law students as Associate Students.
Maintain and update student files throughout the year and following BoE progression, ensuring relevant information is available to personal tutors.
Maintain school mail base lists.
To provide administrative support to designated academic colleagues.
Other duties commensurate with the grade as required by the School Manager.

Qualifications
Good general education, at least GCSE Grade A-C or equivalent, plus some experience in a relevant role OR 1-2 years’ relevant work experience.
