The Opportunity
Our client is a global social app with tens of millions of users across the world, its reach is expansive and rapidly growing.

Our client is looking for a Privacy Counsel to help it ensure the highest standard of privacy for the organization and for its users. The ideal candidate will be an expert on privacy laws and regulations and know how to develop, communicate and ensure alignment with both laws and industry best practices when it comes to privacy and emerging technologies.

This position will be based in its new Singapore office and will be reporting to the group’s Chief Privacy Officer. The Privacy Counsel will be the “go to” person for all privacy issues and matters in relation to the client’s APAC brands and will otherwise be advising on APAC privacy laws and regulations in relation to all of its services offered in the region.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

Participate in the development of the privacy strategy to meet changing global privacy requirements, in particular in the APAC region
Work hand in hand with internal stakeholders to implement and deploy updates to the privacy strategy
Communicate and ensure understanding of, and compliance with, applicable privacy laws, regulations and the privacy strategy as new products and features are developed
Develop, maintain and communicate privacy policies and procedures as part of the ongoing evolution of the privacy strategy
Draft and negotiate privacy terms as well as provide guidance to the legal team and to business partners
Assist with ongoing review and update of internal trainings on legal and regulatory requirements relating to privacy, as well as best practices

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Degree from an accredited, top-tier law school.
3+ years of privacy experience at a top-tier law firm (desirable but not required) and/or in an in-house role (experience in a technology company environment is preferred)
Exposure to EU GDPR and Japanese privacy laws a plus
CIPP certification also a plus
Ability to speak, read, write and understand English fluently
Fluency in Japanese a plus
Autonomous and self-motivated team player
Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp business issues, balance risks, exhibit and exercise sound judgment
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent project management and verbal and written communication skills
