Job Description : Job Summary
As the Software Development Manager, you will manage the sofware development team to design, develop and maintenance custom digital product(s) as they move from conception to deployment. This position will have responsibility of day-to-day management of a team of on-staff and contractor software engineers and will be responsible for the quality and continuous improvement of our product development process. Generate innovative ideas, solutions, and opportunities to contribute to Core & Main’s customer, associate and vendor success.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Build and maintain a highly engaged and highly performing team remotely disbursed throughout the US and off-shore; hire and retain the right talent in the right role
Develop and empower direct reports to make appropriate technical decisions
Demonstrate Core & Main’s core values and maintain a positive and open demeanor
Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration and mentoring
Manage resources in alignment with forecast models
Partner with Product resources to identify clear business requirements
Manage development resources by setting clear business and technical expectations
Manage development resources across multiple technologies including .Net, Java, SQL, NoSQL, Windows, Unix/Linux
Review product documentation and collateral. Ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities.
Work collaboratively with senior management, architecture and senior development staff to develop broadly acceptable solutions
Set resource goals and delegate project work
Drive consistency in artifacts and deliverables, budgets, and resource planning
Identify process improvements and/or ineffective use of project hours and resources
Ensure resource availability to support deployment activities in various environments
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older
Must pass pre-employment assessment(s) if applicableA minimum of five years in business product development
Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Education and Experience
A minimum of five years managing agile software development teams including engineers and quality assurance analysts including on-shore, off-shore, or remote resources.
A minimum of 10 years software development experience:
Object Oriented development in C#
ASP.NET WebForms and/or MVC development experience with CSS and JavaScript
HTML5
Experience with: Low Code platforms, Mulesoft iPaas, SQL Server, Master Data and other enterprise enablers
Source control versioning systems such as Azure DevOps, VSTS, TFS, Git, or SourceSafe
Test Driven Development using Automated Unit Testing and Mocking frameworks
Microsoft BI/ETL tools
Mobile app development using React Native and publishing process (iOS/Android)
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Process orientation: Demonstrated ability to develop repeatable processes or improve existing processes in and out of product development.
Project management skills: Demonstrated the ability to push projects over the finish line with sound planning and persistent execution; will understand how to align resources, seek the input of key constituents, and manage others to achieve desired results.
Open and collaborative style; must be comfortable working in an environment where ideas are shared and challenged;
Energy and enthusiasm; candidates must find the work “fun” and enjoy being accountable and willing to hold others accountable.
