An exciting opportunity exists for a communicative and proactive Mentoring & Transition Officer to join our dynamic team.

Salary Package: From $ $59.45 to $ $65.62 per hour (HEW Level 6), plus 10% employer’s superannuation.

The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Programs and Pathways) develops and drives the University’s strategy for building and enhancing entry and progression pathways and, with the Pro-Vice Chancellor Learning and Teaching, leads the ongoing improvement of academic offerings at Macquarie.

The Widening Participation Team at Macquarie University leads the development of programs to implement the University’s Widening Participation Strategic Framework.

Macquarie’s flagship program, LEAP (Learning, Education, Aspiration, Participation) engages with students from underrepresented groups in their schools and communities to increase opportunities for them to access and succeed in university education.
THE ROLE
The Role
You will:
Coordinate mentor allocations to schools and weekly mentoring sessions at partner schools.
Recruit, train and supervise a network of skilled and engaged student mentors and casual staff in the delivery of Widening Participation programs, utilising specialist knowledge of the equity and diversity sector and of refugee and asylum seeker issues.
Supervise student volunteers, student ambassadors and casual staff members involved in the delivery of mentoring, transition support and publicity events.
Monitor the impact and effectiveness of mentoring and transition activities aimed at widening participation in higher education.
Support the development of new policies, strategies and/or programs for refugee transition support.
Liaise with and answer specialist queries from key stakeholders including students, mentors, partner schools, parents/caregivers and community groups.
Organise and deliver visits (on and off campus) targeted at school students, parents/carers and teachers.
Support the promotion of LEAP programs through a variety of internal and external media channels and activities to achieve strategic program objectives.
Collect, analyse, evaluate and report on issues related to the LEAP programs.
Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations.
Perform any other duties as required and appropriate for this classification.
About You
You will have excellent time management skills, and with a keen attention to detail your written and verbal communication skills are exemplary. Your great organisational skills will enable you to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
You will work independently, and as a member of a team and work in collaboration with others to achieve shared goals. You will thrive in this role as an excellent communicator with a proactive nature and a flexible and resilient approach.
Ideally, you will have experience delivering mentoring and/or outreach programs to high school student cohorts, and an understanding of the impact of a refugee, asylum-seeking, low-socioeconomic status, regional or remote backgrounds on educational outcomes.

Degree and/ or relevant work experience of at least two years in providing service to equity cohorts, preferably including those from refugee and humanitarian-entrant backgrounds
High level interpersonal and communication skills including working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external partners.
Experience in event coordination and project delivery.
Experience in volunteer recruitment and management
