We are recruiting clinical support workers to join our dynamic, forward thinking and highly professional team. NUH is a Major Trauma Centre covering the East Midlands. Our busy Children’s Emergency Department sees 45,000 paediatric patients a year and works closely with the Adult Emergency Department and the Children’s Hospital.

We are about to expand our department to include a dedicated resus area for children.

You will receive a comprehensive induction with opportunity for ongoing practical and academic development.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be required to deliver high quality holistic care to patients. With the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, they will provide an efficient and high quality service to patients and their families attending the Children’s Emergency Department, through the provision of basic patient care assessments including, Observations, Venepuncture & Cannulation, ECG, Nasogastric Tube insertion, Wound care and plastering

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Following appropriate training and with the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, participate in undertaking clinical tasks at the request of the Paediatric ED Team. Primarily you will be expected to undertake cannulation, venepuncture, observations and ECG recording, nasogastric tube insertion, wound care/ wound closure, slings and splints, plastering although you may be asked to undertake other clinical duties as requested.

Essential criteria
Good basic level of secondary school education.
NVQ/Diploma Qualification level 2/3 in a Care related subject or equivalent.

ECDL / ICT certificate
Care certificate
Competency Certificate in the following trust role related packages:- • Venepuncture and Cannulation • ECG • Plastering • NG Tube insertion
Current Patient Manual Handling training
Experience
Essential criteria
Evidence of current clinical experience relative to this post.
Evidence of experience and competency of recording base line observations (to include blood pressure, pulse, temp, blood glucose).

Previous experience of working in Urgent or Emergency Care.

Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non-patient manual handling manoeuvres.
Physically able to perform the full range of CSW duties to include taking of blood, insertion of cannula, insertion of nasogastric tube, recording of observations and ECG, wound care and wound closure, application of slings and splints, and plastering.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£45 for enhanced and £28 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay).
