As a result of continued growth, Defence Bank has an exciting opportunity for two Finance Officers to join our Finance team on a full-time basis, reporting directly to the Financial Controller.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work across a broad range of tasks and get exposure to more than your typical accounting role. You will gain experience of financial accounting and banking operations, in order to apply your studies to the real world.

Description:
Working with our Finance team, and supported by the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for:
The daily review and verification of all transactions that are processed to designated general ledger accounts within the core banking system and internal accounting package.
The daily processing of selected core banking member transactions which fall outside normal daily processing.
Reconciliation of transactions completed on third party systems.
Reconciliation of various general ledger accounts as allocated by the Senior Finance Officer and/or Financial Controller.
Preparation and lodgement of various monthly, quarterly and yearly returns with relevant third parties.
Contributing to the month-end accounting process.
Manage the end to end accounts payable and receivable process.
Monitoring the Finance Processing inbox and ensuring that all enquiries and tasks are actioned in a prompt manner, in line with member and business expectations.
Gaining an understanding of the workings of GST and fringe benefits tax and their application within a financial services environment.
Maintaining relationships with third party organisations.
Ensuring that accounting systems and processes are followed, implemented and maintained.
Initiating and recommending improvements to accounting systems and processes.
Ensuring reporting and service deadlines are met.
Complying with legislative requirements.
Other duties as required.

Other staff in the Finance Department.
Senior management.
Other departments and branch staff as required.
Defence Bank members, and staff at CUSCAL and NAB.
Skills and Experiences:
About you
You have a professional approach and proven problem solving skills with high attention to detail. You will be flexible in your approach and will ensure that key outcomes are achieved in accordance with set time frames. You will also use your initiative to identify opportunities for improvement. You will have 1 – 3 years’ experience working in a similar administration or finance role, and have completed, or be working towards, a relevant tertiary qualification.
You are required to have:
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
A Bachelor degree in accounting/ finance or a related discipline.
The desire to complete (or are already undertaking) a post-graduate accountancy qualification (eg. CA/ CPA/ ACCA).
Prior experience in an administration, accounting or finance function (highly desirable).
A genuine interest and passion for an accounting career within an internal finance team.
The ability to learn and use finance systems.
The ability to work well within a team.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
The ability to manage competing priorities.
The ability to complete administrative tasks efficiently and accurately.
Experience in reviewing and improving processes and procedures.
