Manager – Product Owner – AI & ML, ITS DAS DnA
The Product Owner is the member of the Agile Team responsible for defining Stories and prioritizing the Team Backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the Features or components for the team. Take a significant role in quality control and is the only team member empowered to accept stories as done. Has significant relationships and responsibilities outside the local team, including working with Product Management, who is responsible for the Program Backlog, to prepare for the Program Increment (PI) Planning meeting.
Work you will do
As a Product Owner, you’ll be responsible for managing the product backlog for a product, prioritizing requirements, define and manage scope and sprints for a project. You’ll also be tasked with:
1. Providing operational support to practitioners and firm clients. Engages with various ITS organizations to resolve problems as they arise.
2. Communicate with internal colleagues to understand the needs of clients and teams.
3. Collaborating with System and Solution Architect/Engineering to assist with decision-making and sequencing of the key technological infrastructures that will host the new business functionality.
4. Creating documentation including requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, feature description PowerPoint decks, user guides, process flows, wireframes, and newsletters.
5. Responsible for product quality, project timeliness, and customer satisfaction.
6. Assisting with leading, directing, and reviewing all activities associated with delivering technology products.
7. Ability to work with solutions, technologies, and development teams.
8. Contribute to vision and program backlog. Makes decisions regarding the team backlog and implementation.
9. Defines the iterations and stories. Accepts iteration increments.
10. Drives iteration goals and iteration content via prioritized stories.
11. Establishes story acceptance criteria, accepts stories into the baseline.
12. Coordinate dependencies with other team’s POs when needed.
13. Participate in producing the System Demo for program stakeholders.
14. Work across Agile Teams to define and implement improvement stories that will increase the velocity and quality of the program.
The Team

A shared services center is a simple concept but making it work is anything but easy. It involves consolidating and standardizing a wildly diverse collection of systems, processes, and functions. And if requires a high degree of cooperation among business units that generally are not accustomed to working together – with people who do not necessarily want to change.
USI shared services team provides a wide array of services to the U.S. and it is constantly evaluating and expanding its portfolio. The shared services team provides call center support, Document Services support, financial processing and analysis support, Record management support, Ethics and compliance support and admin assistant support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preparation and Participation in PI Planning: Heavily involved in program backlog refinement and prep for PI planning and participates in the planning event itself. Responsible to update the team backlog and to review and contribute to the program Vision, Roadmap, and content presentations. During the PI Planning event, the PO is involved with story definition, providing the clarifications necessary to assist the team with their story estimates and sequencing. The PO also drafts the team’s specific objectives for the upcoming Program Increment.
2. Maintaining the Team Backlog: Primary responsibility to work with System Architect/Engineering and other stakeholders for building, editing, and maintaining the team backlog that consists of user stories, defects, and enablers. Responsible to ensure the backlog items are prioritized based on user value, time, and other team dependencies determined in the PI planning meeting and refined during the PI.
3. Iteration Planning: Responsible to review and reprioritize the backlog as part of the prep work for Iteration Planning, including coordination of dependencies with other POs or Teams. During the iteration planning meeting, the PO is the primary source for story detail and priorities and has the responsibility of accepting the final iteration plan.
4. Story Elaboration: Responsible to elaborate Program backlog items (Features, Enablers) into user stories for implementation. This may happen before the iteration, during iteration planning, or during the iteration. While any team member can write stories and acceptance criteria, the PO has the primary responsibility for maintaining the flow by having approximately two iterations’ worth of stories ready in the team backlog always.
5. Supporting Acceptance Test–Driven Development: Participate in the development of story acceptance criteria, draft them when feasible, and provide examples in support of ATDD specification by example.
6. Accepting Stories: Responsible accept stories as done, including validation that the story meets acceptance criteria and has the appropriate, persistent acceptance tests, and that it otherwise complies its Definition of Done (DoD). Assures that quality standards are met, focusing primarily on fitness for use.
7. Work with System Architect/Engineering to Understand Enabler Work: Responsible to understand the scope of the upcoming enabler work and to work with System and Solution Architect/Engineering establish a capacity allocation for technical work, and to assist with decision-making and sequencing of the technological infrastructures that will host the new business functionality.
8. Participate in Demos and Retrospective Meetings: Responsible to review and accept stories based on the Team iteration demo. Participate in the collection and assessment of Metrics, including evaluation of business value achieved versus plan, and actively participate in the inspect and adapt workshop.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications. An advanced degree is also preferred.
Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years of in-depth experience in SDLC, solutions design, and delivery of enterprise level solutions. Experience managing Agile/Scrum projects a plus. 5-8 years of relevant work experience in a leadership role. SAFe Product Owner / Product Manager (POPM) or other Scaled Agile certifications is a plus. Understanding of cloud and other computing technologies, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Dataiku. Knowledge of emerging trends in data analytics tools and technologies. Experienced in working with geographically dispersed teams & end users. Self-starter who likes tackling new challenges and works independently. Must have strong analytical abilities, negotiation/presentation skills, and organizational/planning abilities. Strong leadership and management skills. Collaboration and decision-making skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to drive teams to meet consensus and have vivid passion for applications delivery. Strong project management and team management skills. Experience interfacing with external software design and development vendors preferred. Experience working directly with clients and providing consultation. Experience managing both internal teams and offshore vendor teams project delivery, plans, and ensure proper staffing. Creative – able to think outside the box; uses knowledge gained through prior experience, education, and training to resolve issues and remove project barriers. Drive for results – maintains constant awareness of projects and clients; keeps product owners focused on short- and long-term milestones. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with customers yet represent accurately the perspective of Technology. Ability to work productively with all levels in a large organization. Proven expertise in managing the delivery of mid-to-large web/enterprise applications needed. Ability to understand and relate to the business objectives and provide a high-quality automated solution. Ability to adjust communications to both technical and non-technical audiences.
