We are looking for a Strategic Risk Manager to join a newly formed Incident Management team within Restricted Products. The Restriced Products team’s charter is to protect Amazon Customers from products that are illegal or otherwise prohibited or restricted by Amazon policies, and to create a trustworthy selling experience to ensure that Selling Partners perceive Amazon as the safest and most effective store in which to sell their products worldwide. Products offered for sale on Amazon must comply with all laws and regulations and with Amazon’s policies. ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for a Strategic Risk Manager (SRM) to join the Restricted Products (RP) Incident Management (IM) team, the team responsible for mitigating and resolving critical, and high impact global events and escalations. This person is the most senior risk manager on the team. They are both a risk mitigation and subject matter expert. By using escalations as the ground source of truth for customer pain points and Amazon business risks, the SRM works to address the most challenging escalations and emerging use cases, onboards new programs to the IM team, and collaborates with various leadership and partner teams, both internally and externally to drive resolution of strategic initiatives, deep dives, or escalations. This individual is someone who works well both independently and in groups, and is an expert at setting and managing expectations, especially in potentially high-stress and high-risk environments.
This individual assesses new work where the business problem, solution, and risk strategy may not be well defined. They will define and scope the work, identify potential roadblocks and solutions, and integrate the use cases into IM work types and/or standard work for operational teams. This will occasionally include leading small cohorts within IM to work on these issues where there is no clear owner (especially between teams outside of RP), and develop a plan to address some of these challenges that pose a risk to the customer experience.
Through collaboration with partner teams to ensure resources are accurate and current, and the IM team’s mental model is appropriately aligned, the SRM owns all IM training. This includes both creation and delivery of training, resources, and guides to support the team’s charter as a high-judgment team. This person serves as a senior advisor and consultant as it relates to challenging deep dives escalation handling proficiency. They will identify knowledge gaps by conducting periodic training assessments, review escalation handling, and adjust training and resources as necessary to ensure proficiency.
This individual strategically evaluates risk by mining escalation data and performs escalation trend analysis to systemically address the most challenging issues to programs that remain unresolved with existing preventative actions. This includes leveraging data to identify systemic issues, gaps and anomalies and submit findings and potential solutions to business stakeholders for improvements with the goal of escalation reduction

Key job responsibilities
As a Strategic Risk Manager (SRM), you will be responsible for:

Supporting the resolution of time-sensitive escalations handled by the Incident Managers
Performing analysis of data from a variety of sources to identify possible risk indicators.
Analyzing escalations from various sources within Amazon, determining possible root causes and identifying preventative actions.
Tracking and documenting incidents from initial detection through final resolution.
Writing and publishing techniques, guidance, and reports on incident findings.
Coordinating with business analysts to correlate risk assessment data.
Monitoring external data sources to maintain currency of threat condition and determine which issues may have an impact on RP operations.
Drafting and presenting deep-dive documents and reports on policy and process gaps to senior executives.
Developing and delivering training to incident management team.

An ideal candidate will be able to:

Exercise strong judgment in areas where policies are not well defined.
Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems and recommend the most appropriate course of action.
Dissect complex problems to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Analyze existing policy and process gaps, and identify solutions to close them.
Function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Advanced degree in related discipline (e.g JD, MBA, MA, Public Policy)
3-5 years of experience managing incidents, escalations, crisis management, risk management, or other relevant experience in a fast-paced environment.
1-3 years of experience working in industries such as law, fraud, compliance, or related fields.
2+ years working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams.
Familiarity with multiple analytic tools, databases, and techniques.
Knowledge of multiple search engines and tools in conducting open-source searches.
A proven track record of successfully delivering initiatives from conception through completion.
