As a member of the Global Technology Services (GTS) division, you will contribute to all aspects of the technology products and services we deliver, from technical strategy and design to coding to deployment to operation. Our GTS products and services are leveraged across all Business Unit Platforms within the Bank to deliver industry-leading software including: CommBank App, Netbank, CommSee, CommSec, CommBiz and Commbank.com.au.
This position will pre-dominantly be based at Commonwealth Bank’s state of the art Eveleigh office’s although we also provide flexible working conditions and also provide the opportunity to work remotely or in a hybrid environment

We are looking for talented engineers with recent devops experience in large scale cluster operations. In this role, you will be expected to lead projects to develop REST APIs, CLIs and chat bots that make it simpler for internal development teams to deliver their releases more frequently and safely. You will help deliver a core set of self-service CI/CD patterns to be consumed at an enterprise level.
The APIs you help build will utilise open source components in a Linux ecosystem, however our tenants use a wide range of tools.
We also operate a production Jenkins instance with hundreds of users, so you will apply your devops experience to automate processes around this as required.
Overall, your responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with your team with regular peer review sessions
Implementing a chat bot, REST APIs and CLIs in GoLang to automate the promotion of releases (CD pipelines)
Operating a production Jenkins instance used by hundreds of users, applying devops skills to automate processes
Engaging with customers to understand their delivery needs and help them develop an understanding of devops practices.
Designing APIs which emphasise simple and intuitive UX, with self-service being a goal in order to enable scalability
Designing and build guardrails in the CD pipelines in order to enable safe releases by enabling capabilities for test automation, canaries, release rings, etc
Analysing systems and applications and provide recommendations for enhancement and development
Working within in a team environment and provide assistance in the management and leadership of your team and complete associated tasks
Troubleshooting complex deployment and environment issues.
We’re interested in hearing from people who possess:
Strong software engineering experience with a passion for quality
Strong pull request collaboration skills
Experience writing GoLang code
Proven experience in working with Linux at operating system level, ideally with bare-metal experience at scale. Large scale cloud deployments are also relevant.
Experience with IaC pipelines and automation
Experience with software defined networking (e.g. Calico) is desirable
Experience using continuous integration/delivery tooling. Tooling such as Git/GitHub, Jenkins, Spinnaker, etc.
Experience with Kubernetes at infrastructure level – deploying, securing and migrating.
Good experience in one of the monitoring/logging tools
Integration with enterprise operational and management systems (Automation, Service Management, Security services and others)
Developing service strategy and roadmaps
Evaluation of emerging technology products and services
