What you’ll do as a User Researcher:
We’re looking for a user researcher to join our ‘Scout’ team. As a user researcher, your role is to work as part of this team, driving product innovation in an ambiguous space, building a deep understanding of users’ problems and turning your research into insights to inform the development of new products. Together with your teammates you will help define the next step on the LloydsDirect journey.
Work closely with Product Managers, Product Designers, Engineers, Data Analysts and Content Designers to generate hypotheses and plans for high-impact research that helps us better understand our existing and potential users and how to create a better product that solves their problems and meets their needs.
Own the research for your product team, suggesting the best approach and methods to use so we’re capturing the right insights that help us grow and understand the next best step for LloydsDirect.
Plan and run qualitative studies (both remote and in-person), including field observations and interviews, diary studies, concept testing and usability studies for existing and future products.
Identify actionable insights through quantitative methods such as large scale surveys, and use basic statistical concepts to ensure findings are robust.
Evaluate and explore information architecture, using tree-tests, card-sorts and whatever other methods are appropriate.
Collaborate closely with our analytics team to make sure our qualitative insights are also enhanced by robust quantitative analysis whenever possible, and run some basic quantitative analysis yourself.
Communicate research findings to inform business decisions through the best possible means ranging from presentations, workshops, reports or anything else that is best for the situation.
Collaborate with User Researchers in other product teams to get feedback on your work and continuously improve your research skills.

This role is for you if
You’ve got some hands-on experience with a wide range of qualitative research methods, appreciating their limitations and when to apply them appropriately.
You’ve worked in a multidisciplinary team environment before, where your research has made an impact on the product or service.
You’re comfortable running user testing in a range of different contexts.
You appreciate robust research study design, but can also consider practical constraints and business goals – you understand what ‘just enough research’ means.
You’re a strong communicator. You’re comfortable presenting findings back to different audiences in a way that makes them interested and understand why they should care.
You’re a good facilitator, and have some experience running workshops and team sessions around research.
You value collaboration and are at your best when you’re part of a team.
You are flexible in your approach and embrace a challenge; you might need to come up with new ways of answering research questions quickly and communicating the results in a memorable, impactful way.
You’re familiar with quantitative research and understand how user research helps shape metrics and drive teams towards success.
You are excited about the prospect of joining a small research team where there is plenty of opportunity to learn, but also to contribute to new ways of doing things.
You’re empathetic, love talking to people and have the ability to strike up a good rapport easily.
Requirements
You have experience of working as a user researcher in a multidisciplinary product team.
You’ve taken ownership of a research project end to end, from identifying any need for research, to delivering findings and those findings having impact.
You are willing to work from our office in Shoreditch, East London when required (about 1 day a week) and to travel occasionally to our warehouse in Perivale, West London.
You are willing to travel to our users to conduct research when needed.

Our interview process

If you are invited to interview, here’s what you can expect.
The first stage of our interview process is a screening call with our dedicated internal talent partner. This is a great opportunity to have any initial questions answered!
If that goes well we’ll arrange a video call with Francesca, Lead User Researcher (the hiring manager) to talk through your experience in more detail. This is also a great chance for you to learn all about how research at LloydsDirect works.
If that goes well then you’ll go through to meet more members of the team through a Values and Technical interview. The values interview will be with people who work in the technology team and will be a chance for them to understand your values, as well as for you to understand LloydsDirect’s values. It’s also a great time to find out what it’s like to work in the wider tech team. The technical interview will be with Abi, User Researcher and Mike, the product manager for the Scout team, and this is where you will walk them through a project end to end to show them how you approached it.
