POSITION
SUMMARY The HVI Surgical
SCN Supervisor provides assistance to the Manager/Director in the
management of personnel to ensure the availability of an appropriately credentialed,
clinically competent, well developed cohesive work force to meet patient care
needs.
The
Specialty Care Nurse has coordination and clinical skills required for the
comprehensive management of Surgical patients, (including biological, social
and psychological assessments). The
Specialty Care Nurse assist the team and coordinates involvement of
medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan
for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical
team, participates in assisting with the care, organizes
diagnostic/therapeutic procedures. The Specialty Care Nurse participates in
the education of employees, residents and medical/nursing students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR

LICENSURE:
1.

Bachelors Degree in Nursing

2.

Licensure
as a professional Registered Nurse in West Virginia and willing to obtain
other licensure as needed for outreach.

3.

Basic Life Support within 30
days of hire date, ACLS within 90 days of hire date

EXPERIENCE:
1.

3 years in
a Cardiac Service Line Setting.

PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR

LICENSURE:
1.

Certification by the America Nursing
Credentialing Center in the field of Management or Surgery.

2.

Adult acute or critical care experience in
the surgical field preferred.

Manages
comprehensive and individualized care for the HVI Surgical patients and their
families in the inpatient, procedural and ambulatory settings.

2.

Works with
the HVI Surgical Faculty/APP to ensure integrated assessments.

3.

With the
collaboration of HVI Surgical faculty, APP or by following established
clinical Guidelines and Protocols, organizes additional tests or consults as
deemed appropriate.

4.

Communicates
results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope
of practice.

5.

Consults
and communicates with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings
in the evaluations of patients.

6.

Performs
succinct comprehensive plans of care and documents plans in medical record.

7.

Participates
in patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services for outpatient
follow-up appointments in the clinic (as applicable).

8.

Promotes
and practices innovation of the expanded role in the delivery of care to HVI
Surgical patients and families throughout their care setting.

9.

Demonstrates
expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their
educational experience and licensure.

10.

Identifies
unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention
in the clinical setting.

11.

Recognizes
emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care.

12.

Assists
with the evaluation of the HVI Surgical patients and serves as a coordinator
for follow up procedures and tests.

13.

Assists HVI
Faculty, Administrators and Directors in the collection of outcome measures.
May assists in the collection of outcome measures. (As applicable).

14.

Demonstrates
critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making
by the identification, evaluation and management of the individual needs of
patients/families.

15.

Promotes
an environment that facilitates learning by responding to appropriate
patient/family preferences, priorities and readiness to learn.

16.

Bases
decisions made/actions taken on the relevant scientific principles,
established standards of care and/or research findings.

17.

Utilizes
teaching/learning theory and appropriate teaching strategies in the provision
of education to nursing staff, students, patients, families and the
community.

18.

Updates
knowledge base throughout the year and completes all identified clinical
competencies.

19.

Participates
in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator

20.

Provides
educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel in area
of expertise.

21.

Participates
in community programs, distribution of literature, as appropriate in area of
expertise.

22.

Participates
and provides leadership for committees and task forces by collaborating to
effectively achieve performance improvement initiatives.

23.

Collaborates
with other leaders and staff to effectively achieve patient outcome based
improvements in care.

24.

Provides leadership
in the development and implantation of changes in the HVI that positively
impact patient outcomes. Serves as a
professional role model.

25.

Advises
the Director/Manager on the hiring, retention, interviewing and recruitment
of staff.

26.

Provides
on-going feedback to employees concerning job performance. Coaches and
counsels employees, under the direction of the Director/Manager.

27.

Functions
as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problem solving, individual
and group goal orientation, appropriate delegation of departmental activities
and fostering team building through individual coaching and counseling,
regular attendance at staff meetings, annual performance appraisals, and
active participation in the activities of the department.

28.

Provides
the Director/Manager with the appropriate staffing and scheduling within the
SCN group for HVI Vascular/Cardiac/Thoracic Surgery and Interventional
Radiology

29.

Facilitates
and mediates when conflict occurs between units, groups or individuals.
Reports incidents to the appropriate individuals
