Job Description : A property management company located in Long Island, NY is looking for an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and administrative functions. The company manages rent regulated and free market residential rentals, co-ops, condos and a shopping center in NY State.
This is a great role for a knowledgeable, motivated individual seeking a challenge in helping grow the company and upgrade the systems.
Responsibilities

Supervise accounting staff of 3.
Oversee payroll, processed by outside payroll company.
Oversee Accounts Payable & Receivable, including collections.
Participate in and oversee preparation of tax reporting: 1098’s, 1099’s & W-9’s.
Liason with outside accounting firms, including preparation of information and reports for year-end reporting and tax processing. Preparing Y/E work papers.
Liason with governmental agencies and oversee compliance with government housing programs: Rent Stabilization/Control, SCRIE & Sec. 8.
Liason with banks and oversee bank reconciliation process for approx. 80 accounts.
Participate in and oversee preparation of financial reports for Coop/Condo Board members, investors, banks and internal use.
Participate in and oversee Coop/Condo budget process.
Oversee lease preparation and renewals, including preparation of lease expiration reports and computer system processing of new and terminated leases.
Oversee security deposit process and recording for deposits, withdrawals and returns.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field.
Property Management Accounting experience
Held a senior role in Accounting
Minimum 7 years’ experience (private firm or public accounting background) and several years supervisory experience.
CPA a plus, but not necessary.

Skills

Experience working with any type of accounting software, such as Quicken/Quickbooks or real estate industry-specific software, such as Sage Timberline, Yardi, MRI, etc. is a plus.
Timberline property management system.
Proficient in Excel.
