Job Description : Overview:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for accurate accounting and financial reporting. This position is responsible for following accounting practices and procedures which will result in accurate and timely production of financial statements.
Responsibilities:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure. This includes knowledge of Accounts Payable, Payroll structures and revenue activity.
Performs Month End General Ledger accounting duties as assigned. Timely and accurately prepares and enters journal entries. Monitors general ledger accounts. Performs and reviews reconciliations of balance sheet accounts monthly.
Prepares accurate and timely financial reports monthly, quarterly and annually as assigned. This includes consolidations, income statements, balance sheet, statement of cash flows and other supplemental reports.
Works with accounts payable and other accounting staff members to ensure that transactions are recorded appropriately.
Performs and reports on variance analysis compared to prior periods and budgets.
Prepares and performs analysis of data or financial reports as assigned or requested on an ad hoc basis.
Assists with preparation for and coordination for audits from outside entities. Ensures that accounting documentation is appropriate for clean and timely audits.
Prepares and/or assists with preparation of budgets and forecasts.
Responsible for other governmental reporting as necessary and/or assigned, such as gross receipts taxes and child support payment/reporting, annual surveys, cost reports.
Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and processes to enhance the workflow of accounting and financial reporting.
Collaborates with other finance department mangers or other managers to support the overall company goals and objectives.
Responds to questions and inquiries from company leadership and managers regarding financial results. Provides special reports when requested and/or needed.
Utilizes Accounts Payable Specialist and/or Accounting Assistant as needed/appropriate, providing guidance and oversight in duties assigned, reviewing work performed for accuracy.
Acts as back up in absence of other finance staff members if/when needed.
Ensures accurate maintenance of record retention system.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Attends or leads meetings and training sessions.
Answers phone, takes messages, and handles calls as appropriate.
Accurately and timely prepares and proofreads correspondence, letter, memos, spreadsheets, and other reports.
Completes accurate and timely documentation.
Review and accurately process mail and other correspondence daily.
Performs other duties and tasks as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Requires a pleasant and cheerful demeanor, shows an attitude of helpfulness and cooperation, and the ability to encourage, mentor, and support fellow workers on a daily basis and while encountering stressful situations. Will be required to effectively and efficiently carry out the duties of this position.
Requires in-depth understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge. Knowledge normally associated with attainments through education and experience appropriate to accounting and business administration. Four year Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required. Applicable degree and a minimum of two years successful direct experience in general ledger accounting, accounts payable and financial statement preparation. Additional applicable education may be substituted for some of the required experience.
Requires ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
Work deals mostly with areas such as preparing and reading data and figures, records, reports, visual inspection involving small details. Although important, depth perception and field of vision (peripheral) are not as critical as the ability to distinguish small details and markings very near to the observer.
Requires ability to grasp, pull, push, carry or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
Requires ability to communicate clearly and make self understood effectively in face to face interactions; articulate with accuracy to effectively communicate using phone.
Requires ability to hear and receive verbal instructions correctly, answer phones, communicate professionally with people in situations with some background noise.
Requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with frequent interruption; ability to focus attention on tasks for 10-20 minutes at a time on a continuous basis, 20-60 minutes on occasion.
Requires ability to understand and relate to specific ideas one at a time and to the concepts behind specific ideas; ability to remember verbal and written tasks/assignments from a few hours to several day periods.
Requires ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with staff and a variety of individuals, groups and publics.
Requires ability to work effectively under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change. Must possess demonstrated excellent professional public presentation skills.
Requires ability to work effectively under minimal supervision; exercise excellent professional judgment and maintain confidentiality.
Commitment to and regular exercise of excellent ethical business practices aligned with all state, federal and international business laws and regulatory requirements required.
Excellent computer software skills necessary to produce accurate documents and materials required. Working knowledge of MS Office, Access, Excel, and Sage Intacct, KanTime EMR and/or similar software required. Proficient knowledge preferred.
Sufficient good health to properly discharge duties required.
Requires ability to provide effective professional leadership through excellent interpersonal skills.
Position requires sitting approximately 80% of time standing/stooping/bending/climbing approximately 10% of time; and walking approximately 10% of time.
Position may require travel to the corporate office and other locations. Employee must be flexible to be able to work where needed between a home office and other locations.
