Job Description : Do you have an interest in supporting stewardship efforts and education to ensure natural resources are conserved and managed in a sustainable manner?

If so, consider bringing your strong communication, customer service skills and eye for detail to join our team in the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry’s Incentives and Agreements Unit as a Programs Assistant.

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:

support the delivery and implementation of the ministry’s incentive, granting and education programs in accordance with provincial policy and standards.assist with the technical and administrative reviews of applications related to the ministry’s incentives, granting and education programs;assist with providing program information to program participants and external interest groups;track and compile issues/concerns, generate reports;ensure quality control and manage large amounts of data;provide general programs support

Note: This position is located in Peterborough. Alternate work arrangements may be considered, however, attendance at the office will be required from time to time or as needed.

How do I qualify?
Interpersonal and communication skills:You have the ability to effectively respond to queries and convey general program information, standards and requirements to applicants, participants and external interest groups.You can compose written materials such as correspondence, summaries, reports, recommendations and education materials.You have the proven ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively manage client complaints and resolve issues.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:You have the ability to assist with screening applications for eligibility and compliance with program policies, standards, processes and accepted resource management and ecological principles/practices.You have the ability to research and analyse issues or problems and provide background information in support of issues management and decision making.You have the ability to extract, compile and analyse large amounts of data and generate reports, conduct data quality assurance checks and identify required system issues or upgrades.You can schedule and perform your own work to meet prescribed timelines and unit priorities and assist with organization and delivery of workshops, public consultations, and meetings.
Computer skills:You are proficient with personal computers, database maintenance/operation, statistical software packages, mapping (GIS) and plotting techniques and office software applications.
Knowledge:You have an understanding of natural resource management and ecological principles and practices associated with responsible land stewardship, species protection and sustainable resource management.You have general knowledge of the intent and objectives of the ministry’s tax incentive programs, granting programs and education programs.

Note:

Effective October 1, 2021, the OPS COVID-19 Safe Workplace Directive requires all Ontario Public Service employees to provide proof they are fully vaccinated, meaning they are fully vaccinated as defined by the Ministry of Health (refer to: COVID-19 Fully Vaccinated Status in Ontario ), including 14 calendar days have passed since receiving their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated’ under the Directive and will be required to attend a vaccine education program and undergo regular rapid antigen testing. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program but must undergo regular rapid antigen testing.

Effective, January 1, 2022, the updated salary range for this position is $24.77 to $28.80 per hour in alignment with the recently ratified OPSEU Unified 2022-2024 collective agreement.
