Clerks are a customer service position and we are looking for candidates that enjoy working with the public and have solid computer skills. You will work directly with members of the public such as attorneys, judges, interpreters, law enforcement, and other court users. Working for the courts is a unique experience and we want to hire people who understand a career serving the public is honorable, and important work.As a Court Clerk…Much of your day is spent performing court case workflow tasks, data entry in assigned cases and providing customer service. Workflow includes examining paperwork for accuracy, receiving pleadings and documents from parties to cases and attorneys, entering case data in OJD’s electronic case management system, and sharing case-related information with judges and coworkers.You may also be assigned to courtroom duties including using recording equipment to log all events in real-time, swearing-in of witnesses, marking and maintaining exhibits and exhibit logs and entering data onto each case register while the court is in session. Attending to juries as bailiff or assisting with jury support duties in and out of the courtroom as needed will be part of your duties.You will assist the public at a public service counter and on the phone by answering questions, supplying forms, and receiving payments via cash, credit/debit cards, and checks/money orders for balances owed to the court, then crediting those accounts.The courts serve the public, and many of our customers are facing challenging life circumstances, high levels of stress, or confusion about their next courses of action. It is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.Occasional travel may be required among the Sixth Judicial District’s three court locations (Pendleton, Hermiston, and Heppner).Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances or highly stressful situations.Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, personal computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.Lifting up to 25 pounds of office material or equipment may be requiredADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCriminal Background CheckYou will be subject to a criminal background check if you are a finalist.
