Job Description : Job Description Summary:
The PCC is accountable for coordinating the daily clinical activities of the ED area. These accountabilities include: staff development, mentoring, counseling, patient care delivery, interdepartmental and intradepartmental activities, process improvement and, in the absence of or when delegated by the manager, may assume responsibility and accountability for 24 hour management of the unit. The PCC uses the nursing process to coordinate, negotiate, procure and evaluate the care of patients to facilitate achievement of mutually defined patient outcomes. The PCC works collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff.
Coordinates daily scheduling and staffing in ED, assuring the patient care delivered supports the mission and values of the hospital and the ED unit. Plans and coordinates appropriate staffing practices by maximizing the utilization of resources: forecasts and anticipates the personnel needs of the ED with regard to fluctuations in the patient workload. Maintains staffing at a level determined by the flexible staffing plan and may coordinate the daily assignments of the ED staff, including daily coordination with ED staff to promote proficient clinical application in all areas. Also including the RN and ED Tech monthly schedules and vacation requests. Creates an environment where personnel can realize personal growth through active participation in unit decisions, opportunities for professional growth, and consistent application of personnel policies. Assists with new employee orientation/training and development of preceptor schedules. Assists Director with implementation and maintenance of unit/service policies and procedures. Assures and monitors compliance with State and Federal regulatory standards. Maintains competency in all organizational, department, and outside safety standards relevant to job performance. Maintains and displays appropriate level of clinical expertise. Acts as resource to physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and families. Duties include regularly scheduled shift assignments. Serves as a resource to ED employees for technology, policies, and clinical competence. Obtains status of Super User on McKesson/Meditech programs. Must be able to help train and assist staff and physicians with use of McKesson/Meditech programs for Clinical Care Station, CPOE, and Med Administration. Demonstrates ability to work independently and maintains flexibility to adapt to a variety of situations triggered by sudden fluctuations in volume. Assists with any surge of patients and coordinate immediate projected staffing requirements.
Assesses the needs of the ED patient population, plans for those needs, intervenes based on the assessment and planning process and evaluates the outcomes. Identifies appropriate patients for care management planning based on patient needs and risk factors and reports to supervisor. Assists with identifying and reporting high risk situations. Assists with maintaining a network of the services and disciplines required by individual patients receiving care management services. Communicates pertinent changes in patient conditions to the Department Director in a timely manner. Assists patients and families in their decision-making. Establishes and maintains methods for tracking patient’s progress through the health care system. Maintains knowledge of the resources available in the community for patients/families. Assists staff with referrals (Adult Protective Services, Shelters, etc.). Demonstrates flexibility and creativity in identifying resources to meet patient/family needs. Facilitates transfers within levels of care at NVH as well as transfers to receiving facilities. Collaborates closely with care providers in discharge planning goals. May function in the role of a ED nurse in the event of necessary staff breaks or high work load.
Accountability Will be scheduled a combination of days/evening/night shifts as deemed appropriate by the Director to assist with smooth unit functioning and promote teamwork. When delegated to assume 24 hour responsibility for the unit, the PCC will provide assistance to staff which includes being available by telephone. Attends meetings as designated by the department Director and reports on said meetings. Reports pertinent departmental changes to the Director. Other duties as assigned by the Director or designee.
Assists with the organization of ongoing communication among all health care providers and staff. Develops collaborative relationships to enhance quality of service. Participates in the development of, and assists, with implementation of an education plan that addresses individual and unit/service needs. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Promotes positive work environment. Utilizes performance improvement principals to assess and improve the quality of patient care. Identifies needs and sets goals for own professional growth and development. Meets all mandatory departmental education requirements. Listens openly to ideas presented by others and communicates those to the Department Director. Encourages critical thinking by staff members.

Reports any violation or suspected violation of this Code or other hospital policies or procedures to supervisor, Compliance Officer or through the compliance hotline. Attends and/or completes mandatory training regarding organizational compliance.
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires : Current Montana RN license; successful completion of orientation program; demonstrates leadership skills and a willingness to promote teamwork. Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, TNCC, ENPC Certifications or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
Desire : Previous nursing leadership/management experience. Trauma Education/Training.

Evening Shift – 12 Hours (United States of America)
Schedule Details:
Please know schedules and shifts are subject to change based on patient care and department/organizational needs.
Typically works 12 hour evening shifts on variable days, including every other weekend and rotating holidays.
