Job Description : The Trauma History Investigation of Neurodevelopment in Kids (THINK) lab at Wayne State University (www.wsuthinklab.com), directed by Dr. Hilary Marusak, is seeking a part- and/or full-time Research Assistant. The THINK lab studies the impact of stress and trauma on brain and behavioral development in children and adolescents, the impact of cannabinoids on the developing brain, and pediatric anxiety disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our research uses several neuroscientific techniques, including genotyping, blood biomarkers, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and psychophysiology (skin conductance responses), and investigates several behavioral and pharmacological interventions (e.g., cannabinoids, exercise, mindfulness) to improve mental health outcomes in youth.

Unique Duties
Participant recruitment, enrollment, and management. Participating in recruitment, which may include close interaction with or conducted in schools, clinics, or community organizations in the Detroit area. Coordinate recruitment events and oversee the recruitment team.
Scheduling, communications (e.g., email, phone, text), and assessments for various research studies.
Data collection for ongoing research protocols for children, adolescents, and their parents/caregivers (in-person and virtual settings). Data collection modalities may include: behavior, fMRI/MRI scanning, clinical interviews, biological samples (blood, saliva, urine), EEG, EMG, SCR, surveys, etc.
Data archiving, organization, processing, and analysis
Assist with lab management duties, including supervising and coordinating the work of student volunteers and other laboratory staff
Communicate and coordinate with collaborators and partnered organizations (e.g., MR Research Facility, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Wayne Pediatrics)
Posting advertisements, flyers, and social media content.
Preparation of IRB documentation and submissions in conjunction with the Principal Investigator and/or other members of the research team
Laboratory maintenance activities, such as finances and spending, inventory, computer maintenance, and cleaning
Attend and engage in team and lab meetings
Qualifications
Eligible candidates will have at least a bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, social work, biology, computer science, engineering, education, or a related field. Applicants must enjoy working with children and adolescents and individuals from a variety of racial/ethnic backgrounds. Requires flexibility in availability and scheduling, including weekend and evening hours. Applicants who have some experience in basic and/or clinical research are preferred. This position demands initiative and the ability to work flexibly on multiple tasks simultaneously under minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, office organization, time management, attention to detail, strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint), ability to work independently and as a team. Applicants with some experience with coding or programming (e.g., Python, Matlab), statistical software (e.g., SPSS), psychological experiment software (e.g., presentation), fMRI analyses software (e.g., SPM), physiology, publications, conference presentations, data management, and/or phlebotomy will be a bonus. Must be fully vaccinated and compliant with all campus health requirements (e.g., mask mandate). Applicants who are interested in a two-year commitment will be prioritized.
