Job Description : Child Counselore For SchoolsAge limit: 35 to 60Qualification: Any physiology related courseRoles and responsibilities of the counsellor.1. Be present in the school as per timings agreed.2. Prepare the weekly plan based on the expected tasks as guided below and submit to Principal for approval.3. Maintain the student anecdotal record as well as the class observations in the format below.4. In the beginning, the counsellor shall invest time to meet students of all classes and know them in general through interactions in class.5. The counsellor shall interact with all the students of all the blocks on a roster basis as assigned by the coordinators to thoroughly understand the general environment of Gurukul.6. While interacting, the counsellor shall use positive ice breakers and slowly gain trust of the students as a person who is completely non-judgemental, a friend and a confidante.7. The counsellor shall also be assigned classes to observe for the students’ behaviours in general and of a particular student based on principal, coordinator or teacher’s reference. The counsellor shall restrict herself to the task assigned and not interfere with the class delivery or audit the class delivery.8. Based on the observations the counsellor shall tweak her interaction modules with students and also seek to participate in specific classes on need basis, by discussing with Block coordinator.9. The counsellor shall also conduct orientations, awareness sessions and guidance sessions for teachers on how to identify children with concerns or challenging behaviours etc and also manage them at their level in class.10. The counsellor shall address students’ challenges individually as well as general conduct and behaviour through life skill classes. The counsellor may use the modules available in the SCERT manual for the same.11. The counsellor shall document and maintain in total confidence an anecdotal record, in the format attached and also a gist of all the classes observed.12. The students who will be counselled will be either identified & referred by teachers, or the students themselves may wish to avail the advice of the counsellor or the counsellor might want to see the student for a discussion based on observation.13. In whatever the situation, no staff member shall publicly declare that a student needs counselling. It can only be spoken to the counsellor in confidence and reported to the Principal / Coordinator.14. If the concern is with regards to child sexual abuse then as per POCSO act, then whoever receives the info first from the student, it shall be shared ONLY with the Principal & the Counsellor as per POCSO policy. There is no protocol that the coordinator must be informed.15. Schools may assign the substitution periods to the counsellor for purpose of interaction.16. The counsellor shall have weekly sessions block wise with teachers along with block coordinator, to understand about the challenges in class. Post the sessions, in discussion with block coordinator & Principal suitable corrective measures can planned and initiated.17. The counsellor shall meet the parents of the student, whom she is counselling, with due permission and approval of Principal.18. The counsellor shall provide recommendations for the student’s teachers to support in specific ways without disclosing the nature of issue or concern for which the student is counselled so that confidentiality is maintained.19. The key result areas of the counsellor would be a. Working towards creating a happy school environment for students b. Efficacy of counselling: Change in behaviour observed among children who were counselled or whose challenges were resolved. c.
