Job Description : Job Summary
An accounting manager responsible for ownership of the corporate accounting ledgers and reporting and analysis of corporate results and centralized accounting areas. This role aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the corporate accounting functions by serving two main purposes: 1) overall responsibility for the general ledger of the entities that fall under the corporate segments. This includes ensuring all costs are appropriately recorded, closing the books, and analyzing the results. The position will have significant interaction with all corporate functions to ensure expenses are properly captured and in line with budget. Position will be responsible for analyzing the monthly results and explaining variances. 2) Monthly analysis and reporting of centralized accounting areas including equity, pensions, foreign currency impacts, goodwill and intangible assets, leases, stock-based compensation, debt, legal reserves add-backs, and capital expenditures. The position will work with the corporate controller to develop standard reporting to review the results of these areas monthly, and work with internal and external reporting to streamline those processes by communicating those monthly results timely and accurately.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Ensure all corporate costs are identified and accrued within their correct accounting period. This will require significant outreach to all corporate areas on an ongoing basis to ensure no costs are missed.
Analyze actual costs incurred against budget and develop variance explanations, which require outreach to the corporate financial planning and analysis team
Close the corporate general ledgers and prepare for monthly consolidations process. Perform all required month-end close activities.
Review the results of monthly activity for certain accounts recorded at a regional level to ensure that it is completely and accurately recorded and compare to budgeted amounts. This will involve ongoing communications with members of shared services centers to understand results and resolve differences.
Develop standard reporting to review with the corporate controller to analyze trends in monthly results against budgets and prior periods.
Work with internal and external reporting to enhance the timeliness and accuracy of internal and external reports.
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting or Finance
5-7+ years of professional experience in general ledger accounting roles
Chartered Accountant qualification desired
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)
Basic knowledge of US GAAP requirements
Strong project management and reporting skills (defines targets, monitors and reports progress, strong closure)
Basic understanding of internal control concepts, able to apply knowledge to actual situations
Ability to analyze data and look for anomalies in trends
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal,
Ability to work with different groups to complete tasks within a set deadline
Ability to work autonomously to complete required tasks
Ability to independently solve problems and develop solutions
Experience with ERP systems a plus but not required
Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)
Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
Remote work is an option (exact plan agreed with manager)
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
A regular volume of work and deadlines impose reasonable strain on routine basis.
Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
Ability to travel a few times per year but no more than 10%. Expected to be minimal in terms of required travel.
