Job Description : About the role

As an Engineer Chapter Lead, you will form part of the Enterprise Analytics & Applied AI (EAI) Tech Area within the Enterprise Data and Intelligent Automation Domain. The main focus of our Tech Area is to create a system of people, process and technology (on premise and cloud), built for agility, to provide data and capabilities for our customer facing business areas (including Aus division and Institutional) to create business and customer value.

In this role you’ll be a promoter and ambassador of the new culture and ways of working. As a Chapter Lead, you will bring deep expertise in your Chapter area and develop this expertise and T-shaped capability in your chapter members.

Chapter Leads care for and nurture the growth of their chapter members to ensure they are inspired by a sense of purpose and are continually building their mastery and autonomy. Chapter Leads are not full-time managers, they work as a squad member for 60% of their time and manage people (across squads) for 40% of their time

What will your day look like

Design, build, test and support a secure, robust and scalable Big Data Ecosystem on Cloudera

Solving ambiguous and complex engineering problems

Work collaboratively within and across teams, Tech Areas and Domains

Implements a culture within the Tech Area and the Chapter, encouraging best practices around reviews, quality and documentation

Provide ongoing support for platforms as required e.g. problem and incident management

Help build a great Engineering team by mentoring others and leading by example

Contribute to recruiting and hiring great people and engineers

Provide career advice and guidance to members of your Chapter

Perform performance reviews and coaching

What will you bring?

As an Engineer, you will form part of the Enterprise Analytics & Applied AI Tribe within EDIA Domain.

Ideally you will have a background in Software Engineering along with experience building modern Big Data applications preferably in the Cloudera stack

You place a high emphasis on Software Engineering fundamentals such as code and configuration management, CICD/Automation and automated testing

You will have programming language experience with Java and preferably a secondary language such as Python

You have experience in two or more of the following

Designing and building data pipelines and ETL frameworks both batch and real time

Data management experience

Data Modelling

Data Governance

Data Architecture

Data Quality

Reference and master data

Data integration

Experience working with Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Spark, NoSQL, Hive, Impala, HDFS), preferably in an Enterprise environment.

Automated CI-CD and testing tools and approaches

Good understanding of Streaming frameworks like Kafka

Good understanding of shell scripting and scheduling tools like Control-M
