Cloudera is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong technical background to help build a new “Storage Services” team in the Data Service Platform organization.
The Data Services Platform is building a common substrate for Cloudera’s next-gen Data Services for data warehousing, data engineering, machine learning etc. We are building a hybrid data platform that abstracts out the complexities of various cloud providers like AWS, Azure and is the foundation pillar of Cloudera’s hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud strategy. Cloudera’s next-gen Data Services enables customers to utilize their on-premise and cloud infrastructure, dynamically adjusting and scaling to their workload needs. These Cloudera Data Services, whether hosted by Cloudera or the customer, enable the latest and evolved techniques of managing data to empower various consumers of data from analysts to data scientists.
The Data Services Platform team have deep technical expertise in distributed computing, container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, and on various cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP, Openshift. We have team members who have been the pioneers of open source projects like Apache YARN , Apache Ambari , YuniKorn for Kubernetes . We are deeply involved in open source communities like Apache Software Foundation, CNCF.
We are expanding our charter and incubating a new Storage Services team under the Data Services Platform organization. We are looking for an experienced engineering manager with working experience on Cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP, Openshift; Cloud Storage/Backup technologies (S3, EFS, EBS, ADLS), and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. You will be responsible for incubating this new team and delivering a net new set of storage services. You will be responsible for designing, building and delivering these services and will closely collaborate with partner engineering teams to deliver features and products at a rapid pace. You must be self-motivated, innovative, and proactive. This role offers significant opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities
Incubate the Storage Services team and deliver a set of storage services from scratch.
Lead a team of strong engineers to design, code, and implement elegant, scalable, enterprise-quality application services.
Build strong relationships and collaborate with platform and UI engineers, quality engineers, UX designers, as well as, Product Management, Field Engineering, and other external partners.
Work closely with Product Managers to define the capabilities that should be built into the product based on customer use cases.
As a leader, you should be able to fill in, to address gaps in process/practices followed by the team/organisation.
Help to define the career growth of your reportees by working with them and being responsible for their growth.
Enhance developer velocity and team agility.
Qualifications
BE, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science
10+ years of experience with > 2+ years of management experience.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Good understanding of engineering best practices.
Experience with Public cloud – AWS, Azure, or GCP
Experience with Cloud Storage (S3, EFS, EBS, ADLS).
Strong Understanding of Distributed Systems and building systems at scale.
Should be able to drive the architecture/design and provide technical direction to the team
Pluses
Experience building PaaS and SaaS products.
Expertise with container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Openshift, EKS, AKS, GKE, Google Anthos etc.) and cloud networking.
Experience working in open source Apache Hadoop Community and more broadly the Big Data ecosystem communities (e.g. Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Hive)
Experience working in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) community.
