Department overview:
The Equities Product Control team is part of the wider Global Middle Office team that plays an important role within Finance. It includes the legacy Product Control, Valuations, Collateral Management and Risk & Operations Middle Office functions.

The Product Control (PC) team is an independent control function that ensures the integrity of Nomura’s financial statements. This is through the preparation and independent verification of daily and monthly P&Ls. In addition PC review trade booking and valuation flows, perform balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation.
Global Middle Office work closely with the Wholesale division supporting the business and their trading activities. They also work closely with Risk, Operations, IT, Legal and Compliance as well as other functions within the Finance division. GMO provide management with valuable insight into the Wholesale trading performance and key financial information. The team reports locally in to the EMEA Deputy CFO and globally into the Global Head of Middle Office.
Nomura operates a mature offshore PL production model meaning the onshore role is focussed on liaison with the business, working closely with the middle office trade validation team and value add advisory work. The role of the onshore team spans business advisory, performance analysis, balance sheet substantiation and valuation controls. The candidate will need to maintain close working relationships with the trading desk and develop a deep understanding of the business’ trading strategies to evaluate desk performance and provide insight to the firm’s senior management on business performance, challenges and opportunities.

The successful candidate will work within a fast paced team and provide a high quality control service for the Front Office. This involves accurate and timely execution of embedded procedures, awareness of operational risk, swift escalation, and using initiative to run small projects to optimise processes and system infrastructure.

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

Product Control experience with a solid understanding of equity products.
Proactive in investigating and resolving issues.
Confident in challenging existing practices.

Proactive and enthusiastic in managing and developing their own career.
Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
Ability to manage own time and responsibilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to deal with a wide ranging audience from offshore colleagues to senior Global Markets management.
Experience in forming part of a wider team and helping to deliver strategic goals.
Execution of processes accurately under time pressure and manage expectations with stakeholders intra-day.
Ensure the highest possible levels of accuracy with regards to maintaining procedure documents.
Strong control mind set and self-identify Operational Risk and ensure these are escalated and documented internally, tracking any mitigating actions via the internal frameworks to closure.
Work across departments and regions to co-ordinate and deliver process and system enhancements.
Ability to face off with key business stakeholders.
Accounting qualification and/or numerate degree preferable.
Strong Excel skills.
Digital skill base preferable.
