Job Description : The Finance Manager: Operations is the recognized authority across the British Museum group and its related entities for operational finance, compliance and controls. The Finance Manager: Operations leads the processing teams (accounts payable, accounts receivable (including e-commerce), stock, payroll, cash etc.) to provide a first- class accounts service to the diverse departments within the British Museum group, identifying and eliminating inefficient and redundant processes and appropriately balancing the pursuit of improvements, efficiency and compliance. The Finance Manager: Operations is also responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data across multiple systems and complex interfaces, advising and contributing to major Museum projects with financial system implications.
Key areas of responsibility:
Management – lead, motivate and manage the finance processing teams, and directly line manage the finance officers.
Compliance and internal controls – advise on and ensure compliance in Finance and across the Museum.
Finance services – work with the management accountants and accounts processing team to provide best practice accounting, processing and reporting services to all Museum staff.
Financial administration – ensure that audit trails are maintained, complete month and year end close down procedures.
Other – promote and enhance the department and organisation reputation.

About you:
Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA or other.
Previous work experience managing and leading a team in a finance department.
Good technical knowledge of relevant regulatory and accounting frameworks (including VAT, PCI), IT literacy with strong excel skills and experience of accounting systems, excellent understanding of control required with an accounts processing function, demonstrable success in process and control improvements, and an understanding of interfaces.
Demonstrable ability to manage a diverse range of individuals and juggle conflicting demands and prioritise personal and team workloads appropriately.
An excellent communicator, both verbally and written, who can resolve problems effectively and has a flexibility and willingness to take on work as required.
