Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager – Applications Support, Syntax is currently seeking a Senior Kafka Messaging Platform Administrator who will work remotely or in office. This individual will take full responsibility of providing Middleware messaging engineering, administration and system support for new and existing production Kafka environments.
Responsibilities
Manage large scale multi-nodes Kafka cluster environments residing on any Enterprise read container technology, Kubernetes is preferred.
Handle all Kafka environment builds, including design, capacity planning, cluster setup, performance tuning and ongoing monitoring.
Working knowledge of one or more Application server like Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss.
Perform high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for the Kafka Cluster.
Creation of key performance metrics, measuring the utilization, performance and overall health of the cluster.
Capacity planning for Kafka setup.
Provide guidance in the creation and modification of standards and procedures
Proactively monitor and setup alerting mechanism for Kafka Cluster.
Perform upgrades for the Kafka cluster
Provide technical expertise and guidance to production support.
Communicates and interacts effectively with client contacts and Syntax’s business contacts including, but not limited to, other members of the unit/team, other Syntax employees (such as managers, supervisors, and support staff), contractors, and vendors

Qualifications

5+ years of solid Kafka Admin experience in managing critical 24/7 applications
Design, build, and configure application or technical architecture components using business requirements.
Hands-on experience with Kafka clusters hosted on on-prem K8 paltforms.
Experience in building Kafka pipelines using Terraform, Ansible, Cloud formation templates, shells etc.
Experience in implementing security policy-based rules & must be able to setup security authorization on Kafka cluster.
Aid System Administrators with setting up Kafka platform in provisioning, access lists Kerberos and SSL configurations.
Experience or Operational knowledge in setting standards to automate deployments using Kubernetes- Docker.
Experience in confluence Kafka, zookeepers, Kafka connect, schema registry, KSQL, Rest proxy and Kafka Control center.
Experience in Kafka Mirror Maker or Confluent Replicator.
Experience in High availability cluster setup, maintenance and ongoing 24/7 support
Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and disaster recovery.
Must have excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Skill in written communication to understand written information (facts, descriptions, ideas, concepts, conflicting assertions and arguments), draw inferences, form hypotheses and develop logical arguments, and to express such information in writing so that others will understand, and concerning some issues, be convinced or persuaded. Examples include reviewing and editing established database policies and procedures and developing new SOPs for database software installation and configuration.
