Job Description : Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Nottingham University Hospital. Applications are invited for a whole time LOCUM Consultant ENT surgeon (with an interest in paediatric airway) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The post is offered initially as a 10 PA contract with a 1 in 8 (1 in 9 weekend) ENT on call commitment. Further PAs could be negotiated and for suitably qualified candidates, an approach will be made to the University of Nottingham for the conferment of an honorary academic title. The post is available to start immediately for 12 months with a view to substantive appointment. Subject to negotiation it is likely that a suitable candidate currently undertaking the above fellowship would be encouraged to complete their advanced training before taking up the position. Applicants should be on the Specialist Register and have completed or be undertaking a paediatric airway fellowship.
Main duties of the job
Although this is a replacement post, there will be another paediatric ENT consultant with airway expertise to provide mentorship and support. The ENT department works closely with the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), high dependency care and neonatal unit (NNU). Our ENT department provides a comprehensive range of ORL-HNS services, and is organised on a sub specialty basis.
The department is situated in a purpose built PFI building and is shared with Ophthalmology. There is a 34 bedded inpatient/day case ward for adults, shared with Maxillofacial Surgery and Ophthalmology and a 22 bedded paediatric surgical specialty ward. There are 3 ENT operating theatres with a wide range of equipment including new 4K Karl Storz endoscopy stacks, microscopes, navigation as well as new otology drills being procured. In addition, there over £600K worth of new state-of-the-art videoendoscopic equipment to equip our outpatient consulting rooms.
Working for our organisation
The successful candidate will join a well-established enthusiastic, friendly multidisciplinary and multi-professional team.
The Surgery Division consists of 23 diverse clinical specialties covering Head & Neck, Neurosciences, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Abdominal, Chest & Endocrine and East Midlands Major Trauma services. The Division has an annual turnover of £260m income and employs over 2,400 staff.
The department provides a comprehensive range of ORL-HNS services, and is organised on a sub specialty basis. It receives tertiary as well as local referrals. During 2016-17 the department had 4554 admissions/day cases and 39454 out-patient attendances. There is an active academic department and as part of a teaching hospital the department encourages research and has a strong teaching commitment at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
