Principal Systems Test Automation Engineer for the R&D Engineering function of Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center R&D facility. The individual will operate in all phases and contribute to all activities of the software development process. Candidate must be willing to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment. The Principal Engineer frequently interacts with Tech Lead, other developers, V&V engineers, internal partners and stakeholders concerning estimations, design, implementation or requirement clarifications, works closely with global sites.
A Day in the Life
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and drive a robust and efficient design verification strategy for product requirements
Understand scope of project use scenarios from interpretation of the system model and consultation with project systems engineers; partner with upstream systems engineers to develop, review, and decompose product requirements
Transform use scenarios into defined test cases; drive test automation strategy for various projects; design test cases
Create Python scripts, merge code into existing repositories, and run automated test execution
Lead teams to execute automated tests on matured systems, features, and interfaces that consist of hardware and software components
Lead cross-functional failure investigations; communicate with internal systems, software, & tools experts at various levels
Support test infrastructure set up and test tool development; such as test tools, stubs, Hardware/Firmware simulators and emulators.
Establish and maintain traceability from system requirements to verification test design and implementation.
Work closely with developers and Systems Engineers to understand the specifics of the Application, architecture & operating platform on which the Application would run and due considerations
Mentor junior verification engineers working on your projects; review and approve engineering reports, verification protocols, and verification reports
Drive strategic initiatives aimed at making our Automated Verification processes and tools more efficient
Understand and execute best practices of Systems Engineering processes, advocate for high quality engineering.
Learn and understand software standards for Medical devices, ex. IEC62304.
Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, mentoring, and software engineering best practices to junior engineers.
Work under general direction and collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Education:
Required: Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Computer Sciences, Bio-Technology, Bio-Medical, Electronics or Electrical Engineering from a premium institute.
Preferred: Maters in Engineering or Masters in Technology Computer Sciences, Bio-Technology, Bio-Medical, Electronics or Electrical Engineering from a premium institute.

Required Experience:
12+ years of Software industry experience.

Required Skills/Competencies:
12+ years of industry experience in developing verification strategy, performing system-level or verification testing, performing system requirement tracing to tests
6+ years of Test Automation experience with software system to device interfaces. Experience in Test Automation framework Design & architecture
Understanding of combined hardware, software system architecture, demonstrated by either coursework or work in industry
High Proficiency in Python programming
Experience using tools like SeeTest, Selenium, Protractor, or Coded UI.
Experience developing manual / automated tests for SW / web, mobile applications
Familiarity and understanding of one or more of the following tools: Visual Studio, Automated test tool Microsoft Test Manager, Web based applications, Eclipse, Visual Source Safe, and Requisite Pro.
Familiarity with both Agile and Waterfall software development methods
Familiarity and understanding of one or more of the following tools: Visual Studio, Automated test tool Microsoft Test Manager, Web based applications, Eclipse, Visual Source Safe, and Requisite Pro.
Familiarity and understanding of one or more of the following operating systems: Windows, Android and IOS
Ability to work on cross-functional project teams comprised of software verification and development engineers, system engineers, human factor engineers and quality engineers.
Ability to test, analyze, and solve technical problems.
Strong organization, prioritization, and communication skills (verbal & written)
Experience working in the Medical Device or other regulated industry

Experience leading a team and communicating information at various levels
