Job Description : Data is Babylon’s lifeblood, and is crucial to achieving our vision. Our Data Engineering function is on the forefront of this effort – this is not your average back office data engineering role. As a Babylon Data Engineer, you’ll be partnering with functions across the business. You’ll support application teams in designing and building event driven systems. You’ll partner with data scientists and researchers on how our AI is built, and how we understand a member’s health. You’ll work with teams building new ways of interconnecting health data, for immediate real time use as well as for extrapolation, and you’ll help define how our insight and analytics team interact with our data.
As a Senior Data Engineer you’ll be at the cutting edge of streaming technologies and processes, and will act as a levelling up point for your team. We expect you to question everything and continually strive for excellence – leading through influence.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
Play the IC data engineer role in one or more initiatives across our B360 & Babylon Cloud Services (BCS) offering
Part of founding tech team for Babylon India to help raise the bar for data platform and engineering
Act as a spokesperson for software design best practices and will advise on designing, performance/scalability tuning of batch and real time stream analytics and large data processing systems.
Research and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns for large scale data processing in a scalable distributed environment and identify areas of improvements within the code and suggest solutions.
Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability).
Advise on technical limitations of software design for products and provide alternative solutions.
Serve as a guide to others by sharing and helping junior associates in their duties and demonstrate positive impact and leadership outside immediate team scope
Fill in for peer engineering management as need arises and advocate efforts to remove tech roadblocks for their team for long term success
Design and lead advancements, innovations and changes in current solution designs relating to latest advancements in software engineering (specifically related to data engineering, cloud data platforms, data models, enterprise information management, business intelligence and data science).
You will report on the status of difficult or high-level projects to local tech leadership via written or oral means. Ensures documentation is complete.
You will justify technology choices to both technical and non-technical observers.
You will share technology learnings and best practices across the engineering community in organization
WHAT WE NEED TO SEE IN YOU:
Have at least 5 years of overall experience working in product/IT enterprises of varies degrees
More than 3 years of hands on experience on Big Data stack (Spark, Flink, Storm, Kafka) building data pipelines, products and/or platforms at scale
Solid programming skills in one programming language (Java, Scala, Python, Kotlin) with demonstrable experience in clean code practices
Precise understanding of commonly used design patterns, architecture principles and whole systems approach
Demonstrated ability to play lead engineer role in current/past organisation
Hands on experience on with at least one cloud tech stack (AWS, GCP preferred) specially with data/ETL Familiarity with BI tools and dashboarding experience using any tool (Tableau, Kibana, Looker, Superset etc.)Experience working on teams practising Agile and/or Scrum methodologies
Experience working in organisations undergoing hypergrowth
