Full-time, permanent senior position is available for an experienced Sterilising Services Unit Manager within Macquarie University Hospital, as part of MQ Health.

THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced manager to support and grow the Sterilising Services Unit within Macquarie University Hospital. We are looking for someone to bring their strong leadership and management experience to the SSU team.
This role will work collaboratively with the Perioperative Services team to provide leadership, governance and ongoing development of the Sterilising Services Unit in accordance with strategic and operational objectives and industry standards. Ensuring that quality, evidence-based practice and a cost-effective service are delivered within a safe patient and team environment is a priority.

Macquarie University Hospital is Australia’s first and only private not-for-profit teaching hospital on a university campus. The hospital sits under the umbrella of MQ Health , encompassing the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences and other specialised clinical services.
Key Accountabilities for the role include:
Leadership and Management
Management of human, financial and environmental resources within the department.
Build the workforce capability through coaching and mentoring, developing and growing talent and performance management previews.
Identifies knowledge and skill gaps and implements training programs to ensure that the team’s skills are maintained and developed to meet current and future business needs, which align with best practice and standards
Implements strategic workforce planning to meet current and future operational requirements.
Contribute to the day-to-day management and monitoring of workforce allocation and roster development, including payroll entry and leave coverage.
Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic operations
Work with the Executive team to oversee any expansions within the Sterilising Services Unit
Technical Skills & Application
Provision of service needs and requirements, managing the appropriate collection, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, functionality checks, application of sterile barrier system, sterilisation and distribution of reusable medical devices (RMDs) used for surgical and other procedures.
Ensures service delivery is in accordance with legislative, professional practice codes and hospital policy, standards, guidelines and procedures, including auditing processes (ISO standards, ACHS/AS/NZ 4187:2014 Standards, GENCA Standards.
Provides advice on future state changes required to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practice requirements as they evolve.
Completes clinical/ non-clinical reporting, including qualitative and quantitative analysis when required and within time constraints.
Ensures all instrument and equipment monitoring and tracking processes meet standards and are undertaken and documented.
Participates in audit preparation and processes & reviews recommendations
Assists in prosthesis management and educate the SSU team on accurately documenting use of prosthesis.
Quality Management
Develop and monitor quality assurance initiatives relating to the SSU, taking an active role in the ISO Certification process to meet ISO9001 standards incorporating Core Standards for Safety and Quality; and ensuring regulatory standards and industry best practice procedures and protocols are being followed.
Continuous improvement through the quality projects and develop appropriate tools that support the implementation of the quality plan
Ensuring compliance with Macquarie University Hospital risk management policies and guidelines and maintaining an understanding of the quality, risk, WH&S frameworks.
Development and implementation of the departmental operational plan and associated quality initiatives
Reviews and revises sterilising practices to ensure they continue to meet relevant standards and hospital policies.
Manages critical incidents which occur across the sterilising service within the allocated timeframe
Participates in and contributes to occupational health and safety activities to ensure a safe work environment for clients, community, staff and visitors
Complies with all policy and procedures relevant to this position to ensure the effective and safe operation of the hospital and the welfare and interests of all employees.
Customer Service
Provides a high-quality service that meets the needs of patients and promotes staff satisfaction and retention.
Promotes a culture of high-quality attention to detail and safe patient care.
Maintains open and effective communication with the Nursing team, Nurse Managers, Nurse Unit Managers, Accredited Practitioners and Allied Health staff.
Communicates effectively when engaging with the multidisciplinary team.
Maintain strong stakeholder relationships including staff, contractors and patients.
Administration, Documentation & General Responsibilities
Oversee external consumer contracts on an annual basis in line with Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Management of materials to ensure adequate supplies for the unit.
Ensure all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with MQ Health Policy.
Ensures incidences are reported accurately and in a timely manner
Evaluates performance in a planned and systematic way and seeks feedback from customers in relation to the service delivered by the unit.
Participates actively and positively in the area of health and safety to reduce all hazards and incidents within the workplace
Performs any other duties as required and appropriate for the incumbent’s position
To Apply:
To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter:
Tertiary qualifications in Sterilising and Infection Control
Post graduate qualifications in management or leadership (or working towards)
Minimum 5 years’ management experience in Sterilising Services within a medium to large Hospital.
Sound knowledge of relevant regulation and standards related to sterilising services (including ISO Standards, AS/NZ Standard 4187:2014 and the GENCA Standards).
Understanding of private health industry and professional trends in infection control and sterilisation
Understanding and deliver legislative requirements, ACORN and Sterilisation standards
Excellent time management and organisational skills
The ability to inspire the team to superior levels of performance and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing education and development.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills with a proven track record of effective people management.
High degree of computer literacy including MS Office
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Experience in the leadership and management of a multidisciplinary team
