We conduct leading edge research into infrastructure, vehicles and human behaviours which enables safer, cleaner, more efficient transport.About the roleThe reactions, preferences and behaviour of people play a critical role in effective, safe transport systems. By researching and evaluating user behaviour we provide critical insights to help our clients design and optimise transport systems and encourage behavioural change.Our work includes research exploring the safety of young and novice drivers, the perceptual and behavioural issues that impact the safety of vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists and cyclists, the impact of distraction from a range of external and in-vehicle factors, exploring reactions to connected and autonomous vehicles, new mobility solutions.We also have current projects looking at the integration of electric vehicles and investigating the impact of driverless cars. Our team comprises experts across a range of disciplines, and there are opportunities to develop your expertise and career in many ways.We are recruiting this role on a permanent basis and can be flexible on location. There will be some travel to the office in Wokingham when required.Key responsibilitiesIn this role you will contribute to and lead a variety of exciting research projects for UK and international clients in the public and private sectors in areas including driver/operator behaviour, vehicle automation and road safety.The works involves real time driving simulation, on and off road trials, stakeholder and participant workshops and surveys, literature analysis and interpretation – providing innovations that solve our client’s problems and further scientific knowledge.You’ll be engaging with internal and external specialists to further develop your own technical expertise, share your work and build your and TRL’s reputation in the field of human behavioural science.About youEssentialExperience in delivering research projects and in applying the findings to provide solutions for clients.Strong background in qualitative research methods.Proven experience of applying quantitative methods for research.A commercial and customer-oriented attitude.Experience of conducting user engagement (focus groups, structured interviews, survey design, workshops).Ability to analyse data and interpret findings.A good problem-solving ability, self-motivation and the enthusiasm to learn and develop.QualificationsA graduate or postgraduate qualification in degree in Psychology or relevant Social Science (or equivalent level of experience)BenefitsAt TRL we offer a competitive benefits package including:25 days annual leave, plus option to buy/sell leave.Matched contribution pension schemeLife Assurance CoverGroup Income ProtectionHealthcare cash plan scheme.Support for professional memberships and studyFlexible working hoursFlexible benefits package optionsJob Type: Permanent
