Team and Position Summary: Advertising Technology

Ever wondered what would a convergence of online and offline advertising systems look like? Ever wondered how we can bridge the gap between sponsored search, display, video ad formats? Ever thought how we can write our own ad servers which serve billions of requests in near real-time?

Our Advertising Technology team is building an end-to-end advertising platform that is key to Walmart’s overall growth strategy. We use cutting edge machine learning, data mining and optimization algorithms to ingest, model, and analyze Walmart’s proprietary online and in-store data, encompassing 95% of American households. Importantly, we build smart data systems that deliver relevant retail ads and experiences that connect our customers with the brands and products they love.

Position Responsibilities:

Design, build, test and deploy cutting edge solutions at scale, impacting multi-billion-dollar business.
Proactively monitor, identify, and escalate issues or root causes of systemic issues
Be the consummate team player with a demonstrable ability to learn quickly. amazing ability to get stuff done.
Interact with Walmart engineering teams across geographies to leverage expertise and contribute to the tech
Engage with Product Management and Business to drive the agenda, set your priorities and deliver awesome products.
Enable data scientists, business and product partners to fully leverage our platform
Lead the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high-level design

Position Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years experience
Experience in bootstrap production and non-prod environments in public/private clouds
Experience working on at least one big data technology like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Cassandra.
Experience in secure, scalable and highly available online services
Solid knowledge of Linux systems with the ability to troubleshoot issues in complex, distributed, multi-tier architectures. Excellent debugging and problem solving capability.
Experience working with J2EE / Scala or Python
Good written and verbal communication skills

Additional Qualifications:

Experience collaborating with multiple teams
Experience in advertising domain.
Experience in Big Data applications
Experience developing with web/app containers such as Apache/Tomcat
Follows the industry trends in the online world
Good knowledge of High performance Stream processing, Large Scale Messaging Systems
