Millthorpe School is seeking to appoint skilled and experienced tutors to support disadvantaged students develop their literacy and numeracy skills.
Literacy tutor(s): up to 10 hours per week
Numeracy tutor(s): up to 10 hours per week
Applicants should have full QTS and experience of teaching either English or Maths at secondary level. Experience of developing and delivering intervention programmes to support the progress of targeted groups of students, or whole school literacy or numeracy programmes, would be an advantage.
Tutoring is proposed to take place with small groups (up to 3 students), during and/or immediately before or after the school day. Each student is expected to attend a series of around 10 weekly sessions. The focus of the sessions is to make rapid impact on students’ literacy or numeracy skills, to improve both their progress in English and Maths and their ability to access and perform well in other subjects. The programme follows the government’s agenda to offer additional support to disadvantaged students to counteract the disproportionate negative impacts of the pandemic on this group of learners.
The postholders will be expected to:
devise and deliver an effective programme of tutoring intervention in either literacy or numeracy, appropriate for disadvantaged students in Years 7-11
record inputs and outcomes, and evaluate the impact of the programme for each student
liaise with senior and middle leaders to ensure the programme complements the students’ existing curriculum
Flexible contracts of between 5-10 hours per week will be considered. The posts will run from now until the end of the academic year in the first instance, when arrangements will be reviewed, with the possibility of further opportunities in September.
The posts are offered at the applicant’s current/most recent teaching scale point, up to and including UPS3. 1 hour paid PPA/liaison time will be allocated for every 5 hours of teaching

Teacher’s Main Pay scale (M1-M6 £25,714 – £36,961 per annum) and Upper Pay Scale (U1 to U3 £38,690 – £41,604 per annum) reduced pro rata
Fixed Term contract until 22nd July 2022
Term Time contract
Flexible hours between 5 to 10 hours per week
