Job Description : The roleThe newly created role is a key appointment within the newly created Analytics team, contributing to the Group’s longer-term department strategy. This role reports directly to a Senior Analyst.The role will entail focusing on trading and performance of the Group. On a day-to-day basis the role will focus on reviewing sales and trading performance, to drive performance and enhance profitability.Should the candidate prove their capability in this role it is anticipated that opportunities to progress within the group will be available.Main ResponsibilitiesSome of the key responsibilities for this new role are: Use analysis to solve business problems at World of Books, including:o Support the preparation of presentations, reports and case studies for the wider business to understand performance trends or communicate trials;o Support the wider business through deep dives or other bespoke analysis to help drive improved profitability; and,o Attending meetings for specific analytics areas (eg UK books, US books).Be an active member of the Analytics team at World of Books:o Follow development processes (including Agile, Waterfall as appropriate), in line with wider IT policies;o Maintain quality processes (including code, analysis and report revenue etc. as set by the Analytics Leadership Team);o Track and report on day-to-day activities and those of your project group (using suitable tools e.g. JIRA boards etc.);o Support in maintaining the data dictionary, ensuring all KPIs and data points are defined within the business and used consistently; and,o Create wireframes and prototype dashboards to support development in Qlik or other reporting tools.Support the Analytics Leadership Team:o Support the Head of Analytics in developing and taking forward the Data & Analytics strategy for the Group;o Look for opportunities to extend the knowledge of the wider analytics team, particularly around advanced analytics; and,o Support our WOB Labs and other growth initiatives with bespoke analysis.Person specification and prior experienceYou will have a strong academic record to degree level or higher in a related field (eg Maths, Economics or Computer Science) and ideally one to two years’ experience in an analytics role. You will be keen to develop and grow your expertise in the area of analytics.You will be resilient and adaptable. Our business is a fast growing, private equity backed business with ambitious plans. Whilst exposure to this environment (eg Private Equity backed businesses, M&A etc) would be advantageous, the flexibility and resilience to thrive in it is essential.You will be a strong communicator, being able to confidentially present your work to colleagues.You will have a passion for understanding the key drivers within a complex business, being able to assimilate multiple data points to diagnose complex problems and deliver practical solutions and recommendations.You will be working with complex, large datasets spanning millions of records and therefore possess a comprehensive knowledge of statistics (eg sampling, distributions etc) and the tools (eg SQL/R/Python) to be effective.Whilst being a great team player is important to deliver the requirements above, the individual will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work autonomously.Given the complexity of our business and our desire for high quality output the individual will also need to possess:SQL skillsR or Python (ideally)Advanced MS Excel skillsIntermediate MS PowerPoint and Word skillsHigh standards of accuracyAbility to work to deadlinesThe individual will therefore need to be flexible, both in terms of hours worked in peak periods and also the ability to travel to sites (both in the UK and Internationally or work from home.Remuneration PackageBasic salary CompetitiveBonus scheme n/aPension scheme NEST Company Contribution 3% Employee 5%Annual leave 22 days plus 8 statutory bank holidaysNotice period 1 monthLocation & DirectionsOur head office is located at Mulberry House, Woods Way Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN12 4QY.Goring-by-Sea is situated 2.5 miles from Worthing.
