This is an opportunity to join our Band 6 Acute In-Patient Physiotherapy Rotation at NUH. This is a fixed Term contract or secondment opportunity for 12 months. We are looking for a physiotherapist with recent relevant clinical experience who has a passion for acute in-patient work. This is a well-established rotation with most of the rotations at the Queens Medical Centre site, with one rotation at the City site, but this could be more in the future.

The successful candidate will have a broad range of Band 5 experience including experience as a qualified Physiotherapist in the core areas of Respiratory, Health Care of the Older Person, Neurology and Orthopaedics.

You will have the opportunity to move through the following rotations: Adult Intensive Care; Surgical High Dependency; Regional Major Trauma Unit; Trauma Wards; Health Care of the Elder Person (both at QMC and City Hospital Campuses); Complex Dementia Care; Acute Medical Admissions Unit; Regional Neurosciences Unit (Neurosurgery and Neurology) and Specialist Spinal Unit

Main duties of the job

NUH is a large Acute Teaching Hospital and this post will allow you to work in many specialist areas with a huge variety of patients and to work alongside many experienced Clinicians. You will be expected to work collaboratively across the MDT with a wide range of Health Care Professionals.
You will have excellent communication and team working skills. You will have a flexible approach and the ability to manage your own time and workload in what is a fast paced working environment. The post has a requirement that you manage and support Band 5’s, Support Staff and Students on Clinical Placement allowing you to develop your leadership, managerial and teaching skills. You will need to lead the Team in the absence of the Band 7.
There is a requirement that you participate in weekend and emergency overnight on-call duties. Previous Respiratory on-call experience is essential.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent core physiotherapy skills and a willingness to learn and develop further, both clinically and professionally. You will be working as part of multidisciplinary teams who will give support and training for you to develop in this role to reach your full potential. You will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and provide support to less experienced members of the team, including students and support workers. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the service
