EBSCO Information Services is looking for a passionate designer to join our cross-functional Software as a Service Implementation team. As a Content Integration Engineer on this team, you will be responsible for delivering designed custom catalog and institutional repository databases that will be used by our customers around the world. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has an attention to detail and uses their penchant for fact-based learning to constantly seek ways to improve.
Primary Responsibilities
Operational Execution:
Collaborate with non-technical teams on requirements for manipulating data to support key features for new and existing products within the EBSCO Discovery Service platform; this includes support for display and searching features
Read and/or write detailed technical database design specifications that describe how to manipulate bibliographic data sources to EBSCO’s proprietary format
Operate automated tools and processes in order to deliver content within established quality and lead time targets
Collaborate with Implementation Project Managers, SaaS Operation Specialists, and fellow Content Integration Engineers to support scoping and executing customer facing projects
Perform quality checks and resolve defects
Contribute to team’s operational success through Customer Service Issue triage and diagnosis, assisting with product updates and rebuilds, monitoring product health, and identifying and resolving blockers and process challenges
Analyze third-party data sources to guide mapping conversations for, and with customers
Pick up new skills readily and demonstrate an ability to adapt to a changing business environment
Innovation and Improvement:
Understand the expectations of internal and external customers and evaluate personal and team performance in terms of real impact to customers
Use facts, data, metrics and sound reasoning to craft a narrative and make the case for change; develop detailed understanding of each of the team’s core performance metrics
Track root causes, and other key facts, over time in order to establish trends and help illustrate challenges and opportunities
Strategic and Thought Leadership:
Take an active role in planning personal and team goals
Write and/or co-write problem statements that help describe issues that have significant impact to team or department objectives
Required Qualifications
Master of Library Science degree, or comparable experience
Minimum of two years in the field of librarianship or bibliographic database development or design, including demonstrated experience creating or manipulating bibliographic data in a searchable database environment
Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience with web-based bibliographic database search and retrieval techniques
Minimum of one year demonstrated experience with indexing methods as applied to bibliographic data
Minimum of one year demonstrated understanding of MARC21 bibliographic format
Minimum of one year demonstrated experience reading and understanding documents in XML format
Minimum of one year demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Familiarity with standard bibliographic format standards (e.g. Dublin Core, JSON, NLM XML, JATS, MARC21)
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Excellent technical communication skills, both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work well in a team environment
Experience reading or writing XSLT
1+ year of experience with Python and related data analysis libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy)
1+ year of experience with SQL and relational databases
