An exciting opportunity for a Senior Developer – Azure has arisen in the newly formed Platforms and Innovation function. This individual will lead a group of developers deploying solutions to our Azure platform. They will manage a portfolio of Azure deployments, developing a team of cross-skilled developers to deliver excellent design, build and self-service functionality and play a leading role in ongoing development of extensions to key Azure and automation technologies, such as IaaS deployed via Terraform and Ansible and PaaS and FaaS services such as Azure Web Apps, Logic Apps and Functions.
We are looking for an IT professional with enthusiasm, excellent technical skills, and a keen eye for developing efficient development teams. The ideal candidate will have proven experience of service delivery in a large IT department, deep knowledge of the Azure platform and exposure to IT systems and business processes within a higher education setting. They will have a proven history of developing solutions utilising DevOps practices and tools, including Git, CI/CD and a selection of common languages, such as C#, Python or Javascript.

About This Role
Leading the Automation Engineering team, this is an ideal opportunity for an individual to establish and deliver a new approach for the support and development of key solutions on the Azure platform, which are increasingly playing a vital role for IT Services and the wider University.
Managing a multi-skilled team of developers, you will provide technical expertise and design and develop solutions to deliver improvements for the University staff and students. You will evangelise modern development approaches, including automation, DevOps, CI/CD, and the Azure platform. You will support existing solutions through the development of self-service functionality and providing guidance on upskilling of other development teams.
Reporting to the Platforms and Innovation Manager, you will take responsibility for your team, driving delivery and staff development to ensure that service, product, and project targets are met.

Key Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise and leadership in the design and delivery of Azure solutions
Work collaboratively with the DevOps Team Lead to manage build and support priorities
Working in collaboration with the development team, actively develop solutions using modern DevOps practices
Essential Criteria
Experience of providing technical leadership for DevOps and Azure.
Extensive technical knowledge of the Azure platform, including solutions utilising IaaS, PaaS and FaaS.
Knowledge of deployment automation technologies, such as Terraform and Ansible.
A proven history of developing solutions in one or more coding languages, such as C#, Java, JavaScript or Python.
Knowledge of modern operating systems, including configuration, patching and management of Windows and Linux.
Experience of developing staff, setting learning targets and moving away from single points of success.
Experience in a broad range of delivery methodologies, including waterfall and agile.
Desirable Criteria
Experience of working in a University or a Higher Education environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
