Digital Health Organization Overview
Technology continues to transform every aspect of society, including healthcare. Lilly envisions digital capabilities as an extension of our medicines, not just a marketing tactic. We, as consumers, have come to expect digital experiences to augment and support our experiences with medicines – especially to help reduce the burden of coping and managing through chronic disease for us, our loved ones and health care providers. Hence, Lilly’s Digital Health team is committed to exploring how the next generation therapeutic ecosystems, connected solutions, and data analytics can transform the customer (patients, health care providers and payers) experience, demonstrate value, and most importantly – improve patient outcomes.
Position Description
The Digital Health Solution Delivery Automation Engineer is responsible for improving state-of-the-art build, test and environment provisioning in Digital Health software solutions through application of the automation discipline. This includes delivery of scalable automation capabilities consistent with our testing methodologies, target environment specifications and quality management practices. This role will develop the continuous delivery platform, manage the resulting automation workflows, and work alongside product development teams to leverage automation in our solution offerings.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Participate in authoring a comprehensive continuous delivery roadmap; identify high-value use cases for build and test automation; champion the roadmap and secure organizational buy-in for implementation.
Deliver a “self-service” capability for product development team use, where code moves from repository check-in to automated test and deployment within built-for-purpose integration environments; this capability will instantiate concepts such as Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery/Deployment and Continuous Infrastructure Automation.
Design, implement and maintain a framework for authoring and executing automated test scripts within the self-service capability; instruct and assist others in use of the framework.
Maintain and steward Digital Health source code repositories.
Work alongside the product development and platform teams to understand pain-points and continuously improve Digital Health software automation capabilities.
Partner with Digital Health platform security engineers to identify and mitigate potential cybersecurity threats to the development/test/production cloud environments as well as mobile application (app) builds.
Author, maintain and execute relevant standard operating processes following Lilly quality management system (QMS) processes.
Use standardized software development lifecycle processes and drive improvements to these processes resulting in higher project-level quality, efficiency, repeatability, and control.
Basic Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Computer Science, engineering, or related discipline.
Professional experience delivering software solutions that span the development life cycle; i.e., project initiation, design, development, testing, deployment, support, and retirement.
Expertise with Object Oriented Programming, data serialization, REST APIs, and software code version control.
Demonstrated ability to program in multiple languages – i.e. Polyglot Programming.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized for employment in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this position.
Additional Skills/Preferences
Experience developing and/or supporting Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) solutions.
Demonstrated ability to “live in the gray space” – when process and direction does not dictate an ideal course of action – and make reasonable, risk-based decisions that keep projects on track.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team building skills.
Familiarity with software build automation and containerization technologies, e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Puppet, Cher, Docker, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD).
Experience building and maintaining software solutions in AWS-hosted environments.
Understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and how to effectively deliver software within the processes and expectations of those systems.
Practical knowledge of Agile software development concepts and associated implementations.
High level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest
Previous experience working in the Pharmaceutical Industry and/or environments regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration.
