Job Description : This position requires a seasoned professional with directly relevant experience in a similar leadership role, including proven success and the ability to lead/coach a team, define/implement new business processes and practices. Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, innovative environment.
The department you will be working in is focused largely on building Mid-Market, Enterprise focused group growth with Salesforce as a technology CRM platform to drive SMS Magic product development working with both internal and external development partners. The individual responsible for working on Salesforce Technology and Platform development and Quality assurance respectively. You will be assigned the role of taking major technology decisions in consultation with Engineering leaders, TLs and Product Managers keeping in mind the business goals. This is primarily a technology leadership role and expects good problem solving skill sets and years of experience in hands-on product development principles, best practices of software programming. You are expected to take the lead in resolving complex technical problems. You need to stay current with the latest tools, technology ideas and methodologies; share knowledge by clearly articulating results and ideas to key decision makers.
Critical Skills for the Role
Ability to work with engineers to Code to review, Suggest and guide the development
Hold design discussions with deeper understanding of the SMS Magic Architecture and Design to review, suggest and adapt key design approaches
Be able to influence positively on Engineering development principles (DIY, SOLID, KISS, DRY, YAGNI and beyond)
Build and Maintained Product at Scale (https://12factor.net/)
Know how to attract and retain talent for successful organization growth
Contribute in building technology Trends, Product Industry in Messaging and Conversation, Customer Delight
Technical Skills:
Good knowledge of data structures and design patterns,
Good Knowledge of either Java, Python and experience in developing Web based API-platforms (JS frameworks like angular), Git & SVN, JIRA, System/Infra/scripting skills.
Knowledge of Salesforce – Apex/Lightning is plus.
Databases : Good knowledge of MySQL, No-SQL like Mongo db and In memory databases like Redis. Should have experience in building Queue based platforms.
AWS platform knowledge, Handson experience in Docker/k8s will be appreciated.
Desired Skills, Qualifications & Experience :
14-16 years’ experience in Product / Startup / Entrepreneur with the last role being a Director of Engineering role minimum of 3 years
Strong understanding of web Based Platform related products and technology .
Preferable IIT, if not mandatory B Tech/M Tech from a reputed institute from Computer Science background.
A self-starter with a desire to work in a highly entrepreneurial environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Key Roles & Responsibilities :
Product & People Development
As said earlier, we are a product centric company, it is divided into sub modules and sub projects. You need to collaborate with the product / business team to elicit and understand their requirements/ challenges. Work closely with peers , your own internal engineering team and development partners and Product Managers to chalk out the detailed plans taking into account various risks and opportunities with milestones and timelines. Keep the development team and management updated about changes in plans. Your project plans should be in sync with Product roadmaps. You need to track and review projects at regular intervals to make sure that risks are detected and mitigated. Various new initiatives & ideas are expected from you to achieve establishing a best engineering department.
Agile Development
Work with technology teams to execute the project plans using agile methodologies. Making sure that execution is following standard best practices. You need to closely work with team leaders to make sure that various milestones are being achieved. You should Provide technical direction and mentorship to the Sales Force, Platform, System and Quality Teams as well as hands-on project management.
Performance Management
Our aim is to build a dedicated and highly skilled but relatively small team which delivers high quality products. Our intention is to acquire/hire/retain quality resources. We are setting up a OKR based on goals, target results to measure, and measure outcome via continuous feedback process with a performance management system. You need to formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the complete engineering team. Work with HR teams to attract, recruit and retain top talent. Motivate team members and grow them in the organization. Define career goals and do performance evaluation for the team on regular intervals
Dev Practices
You should be an advocate of dev best practices and work with a team closely to establish the action plans to get the best practices in action. You should be active in evaluating and comparing alternate technologies and solutions if needed with no error and compromise on quality check and deliverables. You should Coach and mentor Software , platform, system and quality teams on design, development best practices & processes.
