This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring qualified or part qualified accountant. The purpose of the post is to provide a financial control service for the Faculty of Health, Education and Society and the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology. You will be supporting the Dean in the exercise of financial and budgetary responsibilities. The post also helps administer Faculty contracts with the NHS and other health industry providers.
The post is to provide cover for a 12 month period, the post holder will work with Finance and the Faculty executive team to manage the Faculty’s income from students, cost control of the pay and non-pay spend, development of research bids, creation of business cases for new courses and projects and providing financial advice and support to the academic staff. The post holder will also be required to line manage two assistant Faculty Accountants.

About you
You must have the ability to communicate effectively with senior level staff and peers to achieve required accounting and reporting requirements. It is essential that you are a competent user of excel. You must have knowledge of basic accounting standards and the ability to prepare and reconcile financial information accurately.
The successful candidate must be accessible with excellent interpersonal skills at all levels. We are looking for someone who has an eye for detail and a methodical and structured approach to work. You should be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
Qualifications
Essential:
Advanced Level GCSE’s or equivalent L3 qualification
In training towards a recognised accounting qualification
Desirable:
Recognised accounting qualification
Faculty/Department
The Finance Department is responsible for providing finance services to the Faculties and Professional Service Departments of the University of Northampton. The successful candidate would work as part of the Management Accounts team. The Management Accounts team are responsible for maintaining financial control across the University through effective planning, budgeting and forecasting of financial performance.
