Job Description : REPORTING TO: Functionally to Managing Director and administratively to Chief Executive OfficerJOB SUMMARYTo provide a continuous on-site medical support service to meet the needs of patients, consultants and nursing staff. This includes emergency procedures and providing a general service to all clinical areas.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Management of PatientsØ Complete a brief admission examination on each patient when appropriate and document clinical findings.Ø Attend ward rounds with consulting staff, as required, and be available to discuss patient treatment plans.Ø Inform admitting consultants of changes in medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken.Ø Follow the instructions of consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient.Ø Perform clinical procedures as requested by consultant medical staff and nursing staff, these may include phlebotomy and the giving of intravenous drugs to patients.Ø Initiate and alter in-patient prescriptions at consultant’s request.Ø Write up “to take home prescriptions” for patients as required.Ø Visit patients as required at the request of the nursing staff.Ø Visit all in-patients daily and document in clinical notes.Ø Responsible for the initial assessment, re-assessment and follow up assessment of all patients.Ø To be familiar with all relevant procedures/policies.Ø To be familiar with Hospital clinical policies. To report clinical incidents, drug errors and near misses by documenting incident report and submitting the same to HR department.Ø To participate in clinical audit and implementation of clinical governance.Ø To participate and assist with operations as required.Ø Maintain proper documentation of IPD, OPD, Discharge summary, specific documentation related to TPA/Insurance/Corporates.OperationalØ To be completely familiar with emergency equipment.Ø To record all treatments performed in patient notes.Ø To provide a full report to Physician Assistant commencing the next shift.Ø To participate in OPD whenever required.EmergencyØ To carry out Cardiac Arrest and other Emergency Procedures as per hospital policy.Ø To initiate emergency treatments for patients, staff and visitors and complete appropriate documentation.Ø Only in extreme emergency situations would the Physician Assistant be permitted to assist consultants in theatre.In-Service Education & Promotion of the HospitalØ Promote patient care by liaison with all departments.Ø Participate in the in-house education programme, inclusive of clinical and non-clinical.Health & Safety Training Ø Maintain hand hygiene and take aseptic precaution.Ø Ensure medical competence by continual professional development and reading of current medical journals. Maintain patient, relatives, staff and environment safety.Ø Promote the Hospital by showing empathy and compassion to patients, their families and friends.Ø Promote the Hospital by demonstrating a customer –focused approach at all times to patients, consultants and staff.Ø Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and all other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.Ø Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the Hospital, not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse, anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare, in pursuance of any of the relevant statutory provisions.Ø Dress code as per Hospital policy.Communication & ReportingØ Professionally responsible to the General Manager – Operations.Ø Liaises closely with Patients and their relatives, Consultants, Physician Assistants, Nursing staff and other relevant clinical and administrative staff as well as the Management team.Ø Also, liaise with TPA, Police, Corporate Medical officer whenever required.Decision Making AuthorityØ Can initiate emergency medical care as required within the hospital for medical and surgical emergencies.Data ProtectionØ The Physician Assistant must at all times respect the confidentiality of information and maintain integrity of patient information. This includes, if required to do so, obtain, process and/or use information held on a computer in a fair and lawful way, to hold data only for the specified registered purposes and to use or disclose data only to authorized persons or organizations as instructed.Quality and Accreditations Ø Responsible for collecting the patient clinical data on daily basis, analysis of the same and reporting it on monthly basis.Ø Working towards achieving NABH and/or any other accreditation for the Hospital as per Management’s decision.Cost Consciousness Ø Take relevant cost control measures to optimize operational, treatment cost.Ø Identify areas where cost saving can be done and implement with Management team’s approval.This list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and the Physician Assistant may be required to undertake other relevant and appropriate duties as reasonably required.
