Job Description : Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented professional for the role of a Manager – Entrepreneurship & Innovation. The Manager will lead, deliver and support programming that expands Habitat’s work with entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems in affordable housing across India. This role will engage directly with two key Terwilliger Center initiatives: ShelterTech Accelerator and Shelter Venture Fund. ShelterTech Accelerator is a global initiative to identify, nurture and accelerate start-ups and early-stage companies that are developing shelter solutions for low-income households. Shelter Venture Fund is a venture capital fund that invests globally in early stage, shelter-related companies that offer products or services to low-income households. The position entails working with accelerators, entrepreneurs, investors, business mentors, academic institutions, government, industry and regulatory bodies, external consultants and the regional team.
This position will be based in Chennai, India.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems work in affordable housing in India, manage a portfolio of early-stage enterprises, work with entrepreneurs, maintain relationships with accelerators, investors, and other market actors.
Work with accelerators in India to influence them to adopt shelter as thematic focus, establish and maintain relationships.Build and maintain a pipeline of early-stage companies focused on housing, construction and shelter-related technologies.Identify investors and business mentors that can support start-ups and early-stage enterprises as they grow to venture-backed companies.
Support the due diligence and assessment of entrepreneurs for the Shelter Venture Fund and develop proposals for the investment committee.Nurture and mentor entrepreneurs emerging from ShelterTech Accelerators and those funded through the Shelter Venture Fund.Liaise with relevant academic institutions conducting research into areas related to shelter technologies, business acceleration, and impact investing.Collaborate with the Terwilliger Center’s regional teams in Africa and Latin America to share best practices and foster organizational learning.Lead monitoring and evaluation of the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem work in India. Ensure data is periodically captured and analyzed, prepare reports. Review the progress and challenges of affordable housing technologies and business models. Facilitate internal learning activities based on feedback from the programs.Mentor and support junior staff members in entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem programming.Assist the Country Lead in the research, strategy and planning of housing market systems and entrepreneurship program in India.Represent Habitat and TCIS as needed in industry gatherings and conferences as needed.Agile coordination and management of programs.Ability to engage with stakeholders and assess and develop collaboration opportunities within the context of programs.
Support country strategy.Ability to collaborate efficiently and transparently within the team, both globally and locally.Ensuring that results and milestones are documented consistently and regularly shared with internal and external stakeholders.Keeping abreast of relevant issues, developments, initiatives and stakeholders in the startup ecosystem.Ability to mentor, guide and support startups and entrepreneurs.Developing and role-modelling a strong understanding of HFHI / TCIS mission and culture.
Technical Competencies
Technical proposal development – capacity to write technical proposals for lead firms and/or contracts.
Project Management – understands project monitoring and evaluation considerations and adds value to data received to make project improvements. Ability to monitor project implementation and manage project budgets.
Knowledge in Housing Construction/Engineering with understanding of affordable housing products, services for low-income groups particularly in disaster prone areas.Knowledge in monitoring and evaluating projects is a plus.
Key Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering or related field. MBA is a plus.Ten (10) years relevant experience in Business, Social Entrepreneurship, International Development, housing, Finance or similar field with progressively increasing responsibility.
