It provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model and strategy development & implementation, Business Intelligence, reporting and data management.
There are primarily four job families in GAC: Decision Sciences, Information Management, Business Consulting and MI Reporting. This role applies to the Information Management job family within the Analytics function supporting various businesses and functions.
The Opportunity:
Global Business/Global Function:
Global Risk is a very dynamic global function with HSBC which works very closely with all the global businesses & other global functions in managing the top & emerging risks for the Bank. Global Risk has many sub-functions like Wholesale & Market Risk, Retail Credit Risk, Operational Risk, CRO & Administration etc. which are critical for the Bank for driving Risk monitoring and governance effectively. Effective management of financial and Non-financial risks requires diverse information from a variety of sources, for example, risk reports, risk and control profiles, operational risk incidents, key risk indicators, risk heat maps, and rules and definitions for regulatory capital and economic capital reporting. Executive-level dashboard and reports provide visibility into the risk analysis, highlighting key risk metrics and policy compliance.
Global Business/Global Function – Sub-Function: WMR
The Wholesale Credit and Market Risk (WMR) department within the Group Risk measures and monitors globally credit and market risks arising from trading activity as well as credit approval for large corporate, financial institution and sovereign exposures.
The Org. has setup a Global data organization structure in recognition of the importance of effective data acquisition, management and usage in the achievement of its global business strategy. The Global data organization is also responsible for coordinating compliance with the FIM Data Policy and key data related regulations such as BCBS. The Global data organization includes the Chief Data Officers in each Global Business and Global Function, and WMR has set up a data programme and organization as part of the Group’s activities in this area.
The role forms a part of the WMR – RAC (Risk Analytics & Control) and will help improve all aspects of data governance, quality and management in WMR. The role will interface with key stakeholders within WMR, in Group Risk as well as Global businesses including GBM and CMB, as well as Finance to implement sound data management activities in support of complex and evolving data requirements for WMR.
This role reports into the Senior lead AVP – WMR Data Management Team
What you’ll do:
Job Family Classification and Description
GCDU is a repository system that fulfils multiple requirements for Global Risk and Finance functions, these include:
to provide a single view of a customer
to link global customers into MasterGroups for internal and external risk, finance and regulatory reporting
to link the internal and external credit ratings to customer static data
to cascade ratings from Banks and Sovereigns to their respective branches
to flag internal entities such that they become exempt from RWA calculations
to flag financial sector entitles & calculate AVC flag for finance (RWA PC & Group Reg Reporting)
to provide entity view for TRED including but not limited to HKMA and PRA reporting
A key aim of GCDU is to provide a single view of a legal entity to enable accurate reporting in Risk and Finance systems such as DRR, RWA PC, TRED and CoRB3.
Data is sent in to GCDU from the Sites (core banking systems, treasury systems), CARM, ISD, ERDS and Client Central. Customer data such as CRR, GRID, Customer Name, Business Customer Type and SIC Code is collated to form a holistic view of a legal entity. Attributes such as MasterGroups, External Ratings and Saracen IDs are loaded to GCDU by the GSC team and the AVC flag is derived in GCDU.
Treasury Risk : This role holder will work with Finance Capital & Liquidity team to understand the Risk Metrics to be put under Governance
Role holder will work with Pension and Insurance business teams to help Pension & Insurance Risk metrics onboarding for BCBS239 compliance
The job-holder’s responsibilities cover oversight for GCDU & Treasury Risk:
Work on GCDU Data Quality and Remediation as part of WMR DQ COE.
The role is global in nature and interfaces with a number of senior stakeholders within WMR and outside – particularly in Risk & Finance.
Ensure there is integration between Wholesale Data refinery, GCDU. Work closely with Wholesale and MSS business areas to integrate Customer data solutions
The operating environment, from a data point of view is complex, fragmented with significant hard linkages across functions, systems and processes.
The role will be required to deliver complex set of initiatives Data Analysis, governance and communications while interacting with risk managers, project managers, subject matter experts, IT and external consultants
To provide a Group level view of key limits and exposures to enable HSBC Group Credit & Risk, local and intermediate head office functions to effectively manage the Group’s credit exposures
Detailed understanding of the Capital & Liquidity Risk topics
Understanding of Treasury risk concepts
This role holder will work with Finance Capital & Liquidity team to understand the Risk Metrics to be put under Governance
Role holder will work with Pension and Insurance business teams to help Pension & Insurance Risk metrics onboarding for BCBS239 compliance
Requirements
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from reputed university with specialization in numerical discipline and concentration in information systems or other engineering specializations.
Strong analytical skills with business analysis aptitude. Knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations is advantageous.
Good knowledge of programming tools, preferably with proficiency in any one or combination of tools such as SAS, SQL, VBA, Unix, Qlik, R, Python, CRM tools such as PEGA, other BI tools & Data technologies across any of the platforms UNIX, mainframe or Windows
Knowledge of Cloud Computing (AWS, GCP), Data Modelling, Adobe Analytics and or exposure to Data Quality assessment and control (IBM MDM, Reference Data Management) is a plus
Ability to comprehend intricate and diverse range of business problems and analyse them with limited or complex data and provide a feasible solution framework. Experience on working on Data/Information Management projects of varying complexities.
