OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objective of the programme is to support and collaborate with the Member States for further development and implementation of national policies and strategies which ensure equitable and universal access to quality health care to improve health of newborn, children and adolescents.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of Director, Programme Management and direct supervision of Director, UHC/Family Health (FGL), the incumbent is responsible for the following:
Coordinating the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health development policies and strategies for neonatal, child and adolescent health;
As the pre-eminent expert in the areas of neonatal, child and adolescent health, provide evidence-based advice on neonatal, child and adolescent health policies and strategic directions to enable Member States to strive towards successful Universal Health Coverage (UHC);
Foster partnership and, in close collaboration with partners, mobilize resources to support countries in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their CAH activities;
Translate scientific evidence and use it to develop guidelines and tools for the implementation and monitoring of neonatal, child and adolescent health strategies;
Provide leadership, including technical support to strengthen an effective monitoring and surveillance system in countries;
Provide technical support and guidance to ensure periodic evaluation of neonatal, child and adolescent health programmes in countries;
Identifying research needs, promote and support research in the areas of CAH, and
Perform other related duties, as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: Medical degree from a recognised university and a master’s degree in public health or paediatrics or other closely related relevant field of study.
Desirable: Training in child and adolescent health.
Experience
Essential: At least 10 years of relevant experience including considerable experience obtained in an international context, in public health with focus on newborn, child and adolescent health.
Skills
Knowledge of health and related socio-cultural issues facing mothers, newborns, children and adolescents;
Programming, budgeting and monitoring, evaluation and management;
Technical knowledge of child and adolescent health and development;
Working knowledge of epidemiology, familiarity with training methodology, and effective techniques for use in this subject area;
Ability to make decisions relating to implementation of interventions, leadership qualities and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with international partners.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 89,837 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2762 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
