Job Description : About State Reform Team
The team works in collaboration with State Education Departments to bring reform by implementing large-scale system-led projects with the goal of improving student learning outcomes. Our team supports the State to design and implement an integrated program that encompasses multiple critical aspects of a reform process ranging from building an effective classroom pedagogy to working with the state to build salience and necessary state capacity to deliver FLN at scale, while also strengthening governance and other key enablers that are critical for the reform. CSF along with a coalition of partners including The Education Alliance, Sol’s Arc for numeracy and Room To Read for literacy, have entered into a long-term engagement with the Education Department of Madhya Pradesh for system reform and has set up a Project Management Unit (PMU) to deliver it.
Position Summary
The position will be part of the PMU team and based out of Rajya Shiksha Kendra, Bhopal for the duration of the project (a minimum of 2 years until planned exit from State) and might require frequent travel within the state. The role reports to the State Numeracy Lead.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited toCo-create instructional design, material and training with stateReview mathematics curriculum developed by the state, textbooks and other materialsHelp in design and development of foundational numeracy instructional framework, training modules and TLM for early grades in consultation with Sol’s ARC, the central team of the numeracy academic partner in the state.Support the design and implement continuous professional development of State Resource Group (SRG) and District Resource Group (DRG), BACs, CACs, and teachers on early grades numeracyAssist in designing workshops, facilitation modules, workshop materials, etc. for professional development of teachers on program design and activities in consultation with Sol’s ARC, the central team of the numeracy academic partner in the state.Facilitate the designing of assessment tools, classroom observation tools and other required monitoring formats in consultation with Sol’s ARC, the central team of the numeracy academic partner in the state.Work closely with RSK Subject Matter Experts and DIETs for their support in material development, workshops, assessments and monitoringHelp build state capacity on early language learningCo-develop and execute strategies for capacity building of BACs/CACs to ensure effective onsite support to the teachersSupport the professional development material development and course roll-out in the state in consultation with the FLN Unit and with Sol’s ARC, the central team of the numeracy academic partner in the state.Other activitiesParticipate in meetings and workshops invited by the government, RSK, DIETs and other organizations.Participate in workshops on material development, training module development and training of trainers.Attend review meetings at the national, state and district level and provide reflective feedback on the program implementation and design issues.Make regular visits to the schools, observe classroom transactions, speak to teachers and headmasters and supervise the functioning of the BACs/CACs related to technical support.
o Attend government meetings, discussions and committees on numeracy and use those forums to advocate for enabling policies and government orders in support of numeracy programs.
o Provide technical assistance to schools in teaching-learning by using instructional materials designed and produced for teachers especially for this program; make suggestions for improving quality and utilization of these materials.Preparing regular (monthly, quarterly and yearly basis) qualitative reports and documenting case studies and best practices.
Required Qualifications, Skills and AbilitiesStrong academic background with an advanced degree or fellowship with specialization in Mathematics/ Numeracy Education, with a solid understanding of research-based approaches to teaching Numeracy. Candidates with a B. El. Ed. qualification will be preferred.2 to 5 years of relevant work experience, with prior experience in designing curriculum material and training; at least 2 years of hands-on experience in teaching Numeracy in Grade 1-5, ideally in an under-resourced environmentPassion to make a scaled impact in education and belief in the possibility of foundational learning for all childrenExcellent communication and collaboration skills; strong Hindi language writing skills for training modules, workbooks, manuals, etc. and fluency in Hindi; reasonable knowledge of EnglishStrong project management skills, and an ability to be able to set priorities, plan timelines and meet deadlines.Ability to work independently and proactively, without support staff and with little supervision

Compensation
Remuneration will be competitive with Indian philanthropy pay scales and will depend upon the
candidate’s experience levels.
