Job Description : This post provides the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and supervisory experience in the occupational therapy stroke and neurological rehabilitation team, Royal Victoria Hospital, Dundee. You will be joining a dynamic and forward thinking rehabilitation team who are currently remodelling their service to ensure the best possible person centred rehabilitation is delivered by a specialist team across the patient journey. We are committed to reviewing and shaping our pathway in line with the current evidence and in partnership with staff and patients towards achieving a high quality service that delivers the best outcomes and experience for all.
You will carry a complex clinical caseload which includes patients with complex rehabilitation needs and be responsible for providing stroke and neurological specialist support to the wider occupational therapy teams and lead on the training, education and development of the relevant stroke and neurological pathways. You must be able to demonstrate complex clinical reasoning, extensive relevant experience and sound knowledge of neurological rehabilitation principles and best practice. You should have essential skills in the cognitive, physical and functional assessment and treatment of stroke, common neurological and general medical conditions, multiple co-morbidities and frailty. You should have demonstrable advanced clinical skills/knowledge, from postgraduate courses/in service, as evidenced in your Continued Professional Development portfolio with comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines / standards across the relevant specialities. You will have responsibility for the supervision, education and development of more junior staff, AHP support workers and students within the speciality, provide a specialised resource to other healthcare staff/patients/carers and have an active involvement in Clinical Governance, Clinical Audit, Clinical Effectiveness and Research. The department has strong links with Universities providing student placements primarily from Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
This is an exciting time for HCPC registered Occupational Therapist who is a team player with well developed clinical and communication skills to join us as we continue to expand and develop our Neurological services. This post provides the potential to enhance your knowledge and skills in a busy and fast paced environment with a focus on evidence based assessment and rehabilitation, early supported discharge, multi-professional integrated working and continued professional development. The post holder will deliver Occupational Therapy interventions and develop therapeutic programmes and discharge pathways to meet the needs of the patients referred to the service.

Allied Health Professions are moving to 7 day working and this post will require some weekend working in line with the evidence base and the strategic direction of NHS Tayside. This is for improved patient outcomes and to maximise a person-centred equitable approach to care. All new contracts for AHP staff will be for a 7 days service/rota to enable the service to be ready to move to a safe and effective 7 day service.
