Pensions Accountant

Are you an experienced Pensions Accountant ready to progress your career and gain in house experience within the Pensions Finance team supporting the UK pension schemes? We currently have a vacancy for a qualified accountant to provide support on all financial reporting and accounting matters to 4 UK pensions schemes, including one of the top 10 largest UK Pensions Schemes and winner of the 2021 Pensions Age Awards DB Pension Scheme of the year.
As a Pensions Accountant, your responsibilities will include oversight of the scheme administrator for the production of the annual report and accounts for 4 pension schemes (with a combined investment asset value of c£29bn, supporting the pensions of c200,000 members), production of quarterly management accounts and management of the annual administration budget and financial reporting process.
You will gain excellent exposure with working with trustees of the pension schemes and senior leaders across a range of business functions, together with working collaboratively with other functions including Group Finance, external auditors and investment managers (both in house and external).
You will be leading a team of two and will be joining a wider multi-disciplinary team which will give you the opportunity to gain exposure to a range of pensions projects and broaden your knowledge of all facets of pension fund management.
We are currently working on a hybrid basis with an expectation of travel to Farnborough 1 – 2 days a week. The role will require travel to Stirling Square, London to attend trustee meetings and when the business requires.
Your main responsibilities as a Pensions Accountant will involve:

Overseeing the production of statutory annual report and accounts and quarterly financial reports by Scheme Administrators for each of the pension schemes
Responsibility for the statutory audit process – liaising with external auditors, preparing and maintaining timetables, liaising with investment managers and third-party providers
Providing and keeping current, the governance aspects in relation to scheme report and accounts (for example auditors’ letters of engagement, letters of representation hierarchy, control reports for investment managers, custodian and administrators)
Reviewing the consolidated quarterly management reports; analytical review, variance analysis and preparation of financial commentaries, and presentation of the reports at trustee meetings
Preparing the annual pension budgets and five-year plans, reporting of expenditure against budget in respect of administration expenditure for the pension schemes
Preparing of annual budgets for investment management fees for some of the schemes and for all budgets determining and agreeing changes to full year forecast
Managing purchase order/invoice approval systems for the Pensions Team and monitoring third party costs against agreed statements of work
Ensuring appropriate financial processes and controls are in place
Your skills and qualifications:

Qualified accountant – ACA/ACCA/CIMA and demonstrable experience of working within the pensions industry
Confidence with presenting reports at Trustee meetings
Experience of working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders (scheme administrator, global custodian, investment managers).
Knowledge of accounting standards applicable to pension schemes

£55,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
