Job Description : An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join our Post Diagnostic Service (PDS) for dementia within Psychiatry of Old Age, Dundee.
The main responsibility for the successful applicant(s) will be to provide support, information and guidance to people with dementia and their carer’s/ relatives following their diagnosis of dementia. You will deliver previous post diagnostic support to people newly diagnosed with dementia facilitating the Alzheimer Scotland 5 pillar model of support. The role involves supporting others by helping them to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being and to empower and enable the person and their families to live well with dementia for as long as possible. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team working predominantly without direct supervision within various settings which could include the patient’s home, hospital and community-based facilities including the private sector.
The post holder is responsible for providing guidance and support to junior staff in the Post Diagnostic Support Team and for assisting with the promotion and ongoing development of the service within Dundee.
Previous experience of working with older people and the ability to relate purposefully and communicate effectively with the person with dementia is essential. An awareness of the 5 Pillar Model is essential.
