Job Description : The WebXT Platform Team is seeking a strong Program Manager to lead the future of the largest distributed computing platform at Microsoft. As a Program Manager of the WebXT Platform team, you will be responsible for the platform which delivers a high-quality search result page to 450+M monthly active users around the world. Because the scale of our work is continuously increasing many assumptions quickly become irrelevant and we need to regularly redesign our architecture. You’ll need to have a passion for innovation while still running a high-quality product for users – we are constantly experimenting and upgrading our services while we serve traffic much like changing the wings of an aircraft while still flying.

WebXT organization in Microsoft has the mission of “Make the web work for you”. This team is comprised of several thousand software engineers working on Bing search, Edge browser, Maps, Ads, News, and other projects. Over the years we have developed deep technical expertise in various areas – Machine learning, NLP, speech, computer vision, large scale deployments and continue to innovate and delight customers across 236 regions, 106 languages and with half a billion users. The WebXT Team, is part of Microsoft’s India Development Centre(IDC) in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Noida (and home offices at cities across the country for the time being). The team is responsible for driving the overall strategy in search and AI Platforms – spanning consumer and enterprise customers. The team’s constant endeavor is to nurture an innovative, inclusive culture to enable one to build finely crafted Search & AI products and grow to be a leader. Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is self-motivating, has a propensity for action, strong business sense, familiar with or can quickly learn about deeply algorithmic topics, has amazing design intuition and most of all collaborate and influence many teams across the company to delivers results. People who don’t have a passion for solving hard technical and business challenges will not be that successful in this role. You will be expected to get hands on and dive deep into very challenging technical and user problems. We are working at an unprecedented scale at Microsoft; you need to love learning and seek challenges. We are working on the cutting edge of computer science – extremely technical and extremely data driven. We’re looking for the cream of the crop inside and outside of Microsoft – PMs who drive for results, aren’t afraid to cross boundaries by coding or designing mockups, who can fluently cross the language barriers of technologies, business and customers, have a startup mentality, work closely with Microsoft Research, are extremely creative, and who want to win in the biggest battleground in the world today.
On top of that we’re looking for someone who has great business strategic sense including maximizing product market fit. Besides the core PM skills such as customer empathy, planning & execution, leadership and communication, a fundamental skill to be successful here is a great problem solver. You will be tasked on solving problems that no one in the world has solved before.
You must have strong strategic sense and great negotiation skills as this is a very fast moving space with a lot of players across multiple org boundaries with multiple view points and approach to solve complex problems. Many of the right decisions for the future may be perceived as controversial today
Qualifications
The perfect candidate is someone with the experience or strong understanding of the following:
Strong Computer Science foundation – BS or higher degree in Computer Science or equivalent
6+ years of industry experience of successfully built and ran large scale distributed computing systems and/or software that powers large scale cloud services
Experience on modern online services building blocks like Microservices, Containers, Kubernetes, and Azure Container Service
Experience on machine learning and/or deep learning is an added advantage
Experience and/or knowledge on large scale big data computing platform
